Wow… I can’t believe I missed the PP for the first two races…

Ill be back later in the week with my picks!

ps, still can’t get used to this new EKN site… it drives me crazy. It says I have notifications,  but there is no possible way to view them!!

Greg, I do see new faces on the podium, but it surely isn’t due to “equal” cars…

We are seeing new faces and cars on the podium because the other faces and cars can’t finish a race due to how extreme the rule change was!

Its one thing to add more systems that require extensive cooling, but to decrease the amount of available cooling is just ridiculous! Not it isn’t just motor and electronic cooling, but also an additional intercooler.

The new cars are ridiculous….. Horrible change

Oh man! I have some catching up to do if I want to beat my last years score! I already missed both the Ausy and Malaysian GP!!

Haven’t been roaming EKN as much since the change… It makes everything slightly annoying. (for instance I have 10 notifications that I can’t seem to find or see….)

      Goodluck guys!

      -Justin

PS, anyone know when NBC is re-airing the re-run? I can’t seem to find it.

PS, I tried last weekend, however had poor video due to a bad filter. Filter has since been changed and it is working great again

James, the video is broadcast over FCC legal frequencies, primarily in hte 1.3ghz and 5.8ghz ranges.

1.3 ghz has much better penetrating abilities however 5.8 is a much smaller and lighter system.

I have used the same set up and it broadcasts extremely well, it does suffer from shadowing, however I think on 99% of kart tracks (relatively flat, and not blocked by a mountain) it should work fine. I might be slightly concerned if you were in the last motor home in back of the pits, however with the reciever antenna ontop of a tent or the motorhome it would recieve just fine.

I will be testing further this weekend if all goes well.

Thats something I would have never expected!

      Forgot to add…

      If you ARE interested, please comment and include;

-At what price would YOU consider fair, and/or keep you interested in a product of this sort. (This will help me get a feel for whether or not it will be worth it on my part in both purchasing components, and the labor of assembling it.)

-Would you prefer a Plug-N-Go system, which would include everything except your GoPro camera? Or, would you prefer select-able packages, such as a Keychain-size camera package, a Small (non-recordable) camera package, a ready to go GoPro package?

-What size screen would you most LIKELY be interested in? 9″, 10″, or 20″? This is important as there are certain features that need to be met in order for it to work. One of which is a 12v capable Monitor.

Other feature options could be a recordable mini-DVR (which would record the TRANSMITTED VIDEO, which is approximately 480p), as well as an AV Amplifier option. The AV option could realistically come with no monitor at all, and it would allow you 4 AV outputs that you could connect to any monitor. It would be your responsibility to find a power system for that monitor, etc, however it would allow you to stream live video to a motor-home, and watch from inside on your own screen (that has AV inputs)

      Dammit! NBCSN screwed me again!

      I could have been at the track all day, however figured I would go tonight since NBCSN was claiming F1 practice would air at 4:00pm Pacific…. (this seemed a bit odd, but I just shrugged it off and assumed they knew what they were doing….) Turns out I am sitting here at 4:00 and Indy comes on! DAMMIT! So, now I found out it airs at 830 for practice and qualifying starts at 10. That being said I’m gonna bust my ass and get to the track, I’m leaving preliminary guess’s in hopes I will get the chance to keep up to date on F1 before the deadline! So here it is;

      Vettel
      Alonso
      Rosberg

      Goodluck all!

Am I mistaken, or was Webber once considered a talented driver as well? He is most definitely not (for lack of a better owrd) OWNING the series in a Newey designed car, is he?

How can ANYONE applaud Alonso yet hold that incident against Vettel?

Vettel disobeyed team orders in order to win.. Yes, it was bad. However, it is no worse than what Alonso does almost every race!

Look at the Italian GP! Alonso damn near ran TEAM-MATE MASSA of the track on purpose in the start… We all know this happens WAY to often, and Massa constantly gets sh!t on. Meanwhile Ferrari has just as little backbone as Redbull when it comes to punishing their “shining star”

Back to Vettel. If I recall correctly, he started in BMW-Sauber in 2006 as a back up driver. His first Debut in F1 he ended practice 2 with the fastest time over all…

Not to mention there is ALWAYS the argument of Adrian Newey… However Vettel clearly did well enough in the Toro Rosso, and BMW Sauber car to EARN his position at red bull….

Now lets turn the table, What if Alonso wasnt with ferrari, instead say Caterham… Would results be the same? I doubt it…

I am simply stating that the argument goes both ways, and I rarely see a sensible argument against Vettel. Alonso pulls the same Jacked-up maneuvers in races and/or qualifying, however he ALSO has a pompous @$$ attitude to go along with it.

I use both strategies depending on the first turn…

Sometimes In a large race with MANY drivers everyone is bumper to bumper and its the ONLY way to keep your RPM’s up thanks to the guy behind you who is constantly pushing you….

However, smaller fields, or tricky first turns sometimes I will leave my self some room out of the last corner before the start, this way I can get a good “jump” on the start… This is only doable mid pack however. If you are in the front you will most definitely get caught….

For Reference… No one hates F1 more than NASCAR fans…

To put it in perspective, Adrian Sutil got suspended from F1 for 18 months for a bar fight. In other words two complete seasons since he would be worthless halfway through a season… Meanwhile NASCAR advertises fights…

Sounds like im not the only one who would willing compare NASCAR with wrestling….

Please… NASCAR is the ONLY event where you hear commentating with lines such as “Be sure to stay tuned after the race, I feel a fight is brewing”

      Really? REALLY??

      THAT is racing?

Greg, I sure would love to see that!

Webber deserves one more before his retirement. I think it would win over many people’s hearts if Vettel gave up the position to Webber (if the chance came up). I think it would, at the least, change some people’s mind after the first few Vettel vs Webber incidences.

As for Qualifying…. Im surprised we didnt see any Ferrari, such as DQ’ing Massa in favor of Alonso…. Still no guarantee they wont do it for tomorrow’s race…

Crap! Qualifying just started, literally P1…

It snuck up on me as I was expecting Friday night practice as it usually is!

      Anyhow, my picks are

      Vettel
      Raikkonen
      Webber

Although I think Webber will choke and Hammy Alonso, or grosjean will take 3rd.

Please accept my pics as it is only 3 minutes into Q1! however, if you dont, I understand, rules are rules…

Oh, forgot to add, yes you are correct. This device takes the analog video and audio output from a GoPro, small micro camera, or small keychain camera, and transmits it wirelessly.

Hello James, thanks for the reply!

Video quality varies with a few factors. Placement of reciever and transmitter antenna. Noise floor of the surrounding area. (how noisy certain frequencies are in your location) As well as small stuff like how many times is the signal interrupted. By this I mean, are other video components plugged in. It is entirely possiple to splice in a display signal which overlays data on the screen. However due to an extra soldering joint or two in wiring it can slightly (sometimes unnoticeable) degrade video quality… Again completely dependent on set up… There is also the possibility of interference from surrounding equipment. For instance an electric drill 2 feet away from your receiver will impact quality. However if the receiver is placed away from equipment this disappears.

In my testing to come I will be experimenting with different broadcast frequencies. Depending on the frequency that the transmitter broadcasts can impact video quality. For example, some frequencies will penetrate objects better than others, at the same time some frequencies have a busy noisefloor. For example, 900mhz isn’t a great frequency to use due to the general use of chordless (house) telephones.

I’m working on sorting some of these questions out.

Keep in mind this technology is generally good for transmitting up to 10-30km. Transmission quality degrades exponentially with distance, meaning a system that might have a slight bit of intereference at 10km will be exponentially stronger (less interference, better video) at short distances (such as <500m at a kart track.)
