Hey Sebastian, Having not done a night race with you guys yet, can you give me an idea of what the schedule will be? What time do the pits open and practice start? Thanks!

Thanks Gif, you may have saved me from serious injury :). I see why people run synthetics now…

John, what kind of clutch stall speeds are you guys running with the SR-Y? Good to hear you’re getting that much time out of the motors. Mine should be fresh for the next race. Are you doing rings or pistons in-between rebuilds?

We had 4 in the class at the last race, hope to get some of you guys to come up from Georgia next month! I think if we can get ~8 karts out to a few races, we’ll hit a tipping point where more we’ll get more people showing up regularly.

I’m a big fan of the SR-Y pipe since they introduced it for the Gopro Motorplex series. The biggest plus is that we’re now faster than the Jr’s. I’d venture a guess that at Mooresville, it’s worth about a second a lap (<55 second laps).
It’s definitely got more bottom end, but it doesn’t seem to pull much more on top. We’re still turning about 14,2 on the downhill (same as the 4 hole can), which is nice because there’s little incentive to rev them up to hell (and rebuild them every weekend).

Do you think it’s an issue with the KT in general or maybe your plug/ignition module? I’d try a new plug first and then maybe then swap out the ignition.
Does it start easily on the stand?

Ted,
Word on the street is that we’re going to a pipe next year. I haven’t heard anything official yet though. Perhaps a new tire as well. I may have a spare can lying around, though I think you can probably pick one up on ebay for cheap (that’s where I got mine).

Got some advice at the track and ended up running 10/73 and 11/81. Thought I’d leave it here in case someone searches for the info.

Rick, I like that idea :). I think I’m going to buy a set of lever type scales for the car, then I can just use the scales without the lever extensions for the kart as well.
Tim, thanks for the info. I have a TAG on it now, but am seriously considering a switch to KT-100 (can) for several reasons (maintenance, cost, driver development).
P.S. I got a KartLift (Pro model) along with my kart. It’s freaking awesome. Great design, excellent execution.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll call the local shop and see if I can use their scales. I’ve been eyeing a set of race car scales already (lever type, using bathroom scales), so I may just pull the trigger and use those for the kart as well.

I believe VIR does practice days at the kart track every Sunday. Hours vary on their schedule. I want to get out there in August to check it out, but have not yet been.

Figured it out. Basically followed the instructions from an 07 Leopard manual.

Interesting. I’ve never run a KT-100 direct drive, but have thought about it (ditching the clutch is attractive…). I know people do it, so I’d be interested in what you figure out.
If you have a friend with a clutched kart, you could always get them to give you a push :)
