Yeah I feel like people love making excuses it’s kinda sad honestly, almost everyone I’m surrounded with is pretty much like that (not racers but people in general) and yeah the people who want to race will show up and support whatever sanctioning body.

I’m a 22 year old one man crew and drove 1400 miles each way from new Hampshire to race Daytona because it’s FUN. Despite peoples gossip about WKA I didn’t care. I went there to race not worry about political crap. The WKA staff was so great and friendly.

And I ended up running a 2:31 in my Sprint Enduro which was pretty fast and on the pace, I was actually up to third at one point on the first couple laps, ended up finishing 10 seconds behind roughly from the leader but let me tell you that was 100% worth it.

I pay rent, student loans, all that crap. But I saved up for a year and went down in my Astro van and 6×12 trailer on a shoe string.

My point being while some people might be deterred from road racing or karting in general cuz they see all these fancy motor homes, the gotta realise a lot of us just have regular set ups and not zillions of dollars.

I don’t even understand how Daytona was that cheap honestly the fact that the track with all those employees and everything and it was still like $150 a day, that’s unbeatable.

Yeah it’s a hard sport to get into, I mean my dad and uncle were SCCA road racers so I was kinda destined to do it but I mean you just gotta get off your Duff , build a kart and have fun it’s not that hard

yeah the daytona staff didnt know where registration was they sent me in, and out, and back in, and back outfield several times. they got to know my Turquoise Astrovan after a few hours. also we got there at 7:30 pm and couldnt get into the track on wednesday night which sucked. Then we were directed to a different gate and the guy thankfully understood and let us camp in the parking lot. only track ive ever been to that wasnt open till the wee hours of the morning. well they were open but wouldnt let us in lol. it was a fun event but i wasn;’t impressed by the staff at all, only one guy actually knew what was going on. I kept saying I was road racing and they kept saying ‘oh the track is by nascar turn 3’ im like…

Well next time I go ill know to not take 95 south and sit in traffic for 8 hours. I think i saw your kart I was camped way up in lake loyd and remember the ‘bumble’ bee paintjob. I had a blast!

Yeah

A lot of us joked saturday morning that we need a GPS to figure out if the track goes right or left after some of those huge hills, you learned to trust your gut to hit the apex’s correctly. This track was very enjoyable for everyone, plenty of safe passing, very smooth , even had a mini corkscrew!!! (turn 3 and 4 pretty much)

This was only my second national event but I was really impressed by the orginzation, the friendly ladies  at Registration constantly answering my questions about various things, the intercom was also very helpful! The event was run flawlessly, we had a pretty good turnout considering the other races going on that weekend. It’s nice because up in the North East the closest track is Summit, VIR, Mid Ohio, and now this amazing facility.

One rule I noticed that I don’t quite understand is the brake teather. Is this perhaps just a cable that acts as a backup from the pedal to the master cylinder(s)? The wording is a little unclear, and that’s the only thing I’m missing to pass Inspection at Pittsburgh. Thanks!

Oh yeah camping for the weekend is 25 bucks, the pit pass is another 25$. No power either so bring generator or a bunch of car batteries like I do lol

One thing I should add for enduro/axle clutch guys, make sure you bring some chain gears and driver’s and also Sprint springs for the clutch because if it rains we will run the shorter course and that is about a 7.4 ratio and you won’t be able to achieve that with belt gears and enduro springs. Also bring 12 tungsten’s! Hopefully the weather is better this year, short course if it’s down pouring. The track is really slick in the rain and there’s some off camber corners here and there so just a heads up to consider

After a successful event yesterday at Canaan Motor Club’s full road course, i (attempted) to shoot a video of most of the race before retiring with 10 minutes to go. We should have had 10 second green flags instead of all going at once because the TAG group screwed up the start for my class. Anyways here’s the video

bring your big rear gears and 14 tooth drivers beecause its around a 6.0-6.4 gear ratio for laydowns/sprint 2 cycles

I had a freakin blast at Summit, it was my first national in my WKA sprinter , I finished down a lap both days but I was really psyched to have finished both races. Learned a lot from folks too, was a nice friendly event and WKC did a great job . I also learned that I had the worst possible header and flex pipe which made my engine tune all out of wack so I was probably down like 4 horses. Oops

 

Really looking forward to VIR ive heard it’s a blast!

yes, floor pan is up next. Thankfully next to my work is a sheet metal shop and they are going to break a piece of .062″ aluminum the size i need so I can get that underway. That’s next on the list

I am just running in the Yamaha class i think. I do have a KPV however I was planning on saving that and trying to set it up for my twin engine laydown someday, If i decide to stick with twin piston ports. But yeah I will be in the yamaha sprint I suppose, If i enter in WKA sprint I would most likely get smoked by the Reed engines, but It’s all about fun for me, It’s my first year of road racing so it is going to be a big learning curve
