I know you already have your engine package, and don’t know either of your ages, but IMHO, the 80 Masters (32 and up) class at Sonoma should be considered.

I would like to put my two cents into this, I race 80s at my local 3/4 mile track, and I would like to advise you to NOT drive this on the street, you are on a very low/no grip condition and all you need to do is eat a cars bumper once and you’ll be driving a wheelchair forever if your lucky!
hate to sound like a real pain but I would recomend you get out on a track and push it till it breaks loose and then you will see just how helpless you are when you loose traction, if your in the area of central/northern California the Sanzaru karting championship runs at Sonoma raceway and has an 80 masters class (32 and up).

Just thought I would throw my two cents in, and I realize that this comment doesn’t really answer the op.
I got started in karting three years ago, got an 80 shifter for only $500 ready to race, really good deal I’m not complaning but it became very apparent to me that if your going to race these things, even at the club level the initial cost becomes less significant after you factor in everything it takes, tires, fuel, engine maintenance, etc.
Kinda like the old saying “there is no such thing as a free horse”

One thing to make sure of is that your return line loops higher than anything else in the system.
Another cool trick is to go to a auto parts store and ask for a fuel filter for a 1983 Subaru, I like to go to NAPA auto parts and get a Wix 33201 (same thing), you run it backwards using the return for an inlet, the other for the return, and the bottom for feeding the carb.
It basically makes for a $5.00 magic can…

You’ll notice that different rim makes will effect how easy or hard it will be.
Douglas mags are easier than Douglas spun for instance

I would bet your pads are glazed.
If nothing else worked then replace the pads and the rotor if is badly worn.
Its common to over use the brakes when starting out. You will eventually start using the brakes a lot less as you progress. (This was my experience anyway)

Put the rod on the lowest position on the pedal and the highest on the master cylinder.
This will give more leverage on the master cylinder.

I run in a 80 shifter class so I might be a little influenced to say an 80/85 would be a better choice for your first shifter.
I know the idea of an electric start sound really convenient, but the cost of the top end kit alone will cost real close to what you can rebuild an 80/85 top AND bottom end, and if something does break, dollar signs start flying.
get an 80, they are cheap, you can find great deals on them, and you can pick up a spare engine for the price of a replacement crank for that TM k9!
Just my two cents…

You pick your number, look at the results from last season and pick one that you don’t see in the group you will be running.
what class will you be entering?
-

My group still runs fully modded, in fact it’s practically an open class, just a few things we need to hold, bore, stroke, head volume, carb.

Or move to California where the 80 class all started. Lol, jk of course.
we all need to do what we can to boost this class because like a lot of you realize this class is grossly underrated.
I started in this two seasons ago with zip experience in any form of competitive driving. Was a little rough at first, but I would never think of running any other class/engine package.

I race in the RedLine oil karting championship at Sonoma raceway in the 80 Masters class.
Totaly a blast!

Yeah, I got this today from I’m guessing the guy who bought it from this add, paid virtually the same price but got stiffed for the fuel pumps and engine mounts clamps, the guy acts like I’m trying to rip him off asking for the freakin fuel pumps and clamps. (they were shown in the auction)
He thinks this is worth $3000!!!

I sure hope not! This is a package that I supposedly won on eBay two weeks ago, I’m having the most crazy shipping SAFU you could imagine.
stay tuned, tommarrow I may have a lot more to say..

Yes, freezing the bearing will help, you shouldn’t have to worry about it cracking.
Heat the hub, freeze the bearing, it should just slide right in, you won’t need to press it in, you will want to work fast though.
Im not completely sure about the spacer sleeve, it should come out I would think.
-
November 28, 2014 at 9:07 pm #37957Dave HolsteinParticipant
Pop it in a toaster oven and bake it at 300f for 30 min or so, smack in down on a piece of wood and the bearing should fall out, start with the outside one and then you can get to the inside one and push it out, hot gloves helpes.
Repeat the procedure in reverse to install new ones.

The clutch is probably just fine, it’s normal for a wet clutch to be sticky after setting for any length of time. Run it, it’ll free up.
Changing the trans fluid in it if it’s been sitting that long wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Its most likely a RM80/85

November 13, 2014 at 3:57 pm #37034Dave HolsteinParticipant
What your looking for is a carb from a Suzuki RM80 ( Mikuni Flat Side) the TM-28ss.
Check on eBay, they sometimes show up.
-
November 1, 2014 at 9:58 pm #36357Dave HolsteinParticipant
Yeah, start doing push-ups with only your left arm. lol
Get used to having a hand clutch, when a spin or other incident happens that will stall your engine you will need to get it in with cat like reflexes. otherwise you will have get out and push start that bad boy, which wouldn’t be a bad idea to practice as well.

Here is a video I made two days ago with GoPro Studio, it is somewhat lacking in some ways regarding pro editing capability, but for a casual user it rocks, plus you can have some real fun with it as you can see in my video…
