      I’ve only run at NCMP once a few years ago for SKUSA summer nats.  It’s a fun track for a shifter kart.  As for road racing check out http://www.championshipenduro.com/

      For buying a shifter kart there’s going to be lots of opinions but personally I’ve had good luck buying used either on ebay or ekn.  The next question you’ll ask is what engine to go with and again that’s a tough question to answer.  I think most would agree that the newer ICC’s are taking over now but stock honda’s are still pretty competitive.

      If you’re just looking for something to use to have fun with and never plan on racing with it then there’s a lot of options.  Any older 125cc dirt bike engine would work with some slight modifications or you can use an older ICC engine which are engines built specifically for shifter karts.

      The 99 honda cr125 will probably have the most parts / support available with a close second would be TM KZ icc depending on where you live.

      Honestly your best bet just starting out is to find a local shop or track and pay them a visit to see if they can point you in the right direction.

      I was going through the same dilemma a month ago and I completely agree with what Steen said.  If you look at the results of the CIK Winter Cup in Italy, just a week ago or so , there wasn’t a dominate engine.  Vortex, TM, Modena, and Maxter all had good lap times.

      You have to look at part availability, prices for replacement parts, and support. One might be a little better at smaller tracks and one a little better at long tracks but I wouldn’t expect one to dominate in all situations.
