      Best cleaner I’ve ever used is Greased Lightning (detergent/water mix) for anything that isnt super heavy greasy or grimy. It will make it look brand new, its unreal. Pledge and SC1 by Maxima Racing Oils are great products to shine and polish. Simple Green is a great all purpose cleaner.

      If you take enough time, and enough attention to detail, assuming you invest in things such as tires and engines (which will make any kart faster), you can probably win at most levels aside from national levels. Most people buy a new kart and new equipment because it is simpler–it’s going to be faster on average out of the box. The older the chassis, the less ‘user friendly’ it probably is, and the harder it is to find a fast-time-spot setup wise.

      My recommendation would be to either go with a portable air tank (someone will have a compressor for you to fill it up again if you need to), or to go with a good brand. For air tools I would suggest Northern Tool. They are a bit pricier than their competitors, but the product will last a long long time.

      You could always try following a ‘rabbit,’ or having one of your friends go out with you and shadow you. That’s how it will be in a race, might as well find out where you are weak in practice. Whenever I would go to a new track my tuner and I would go out and race. One would pass the other, progressively moving around the track, every corner, over and over. By the end of the day or second day I had the track figured out.

      Back when I used to run, the first two laps were always the fastest, typically the 2nd on Bridgestone YHCs. Just like any racecar, lap times will drop off as the tires heat up etc. Half a second is a bit large, but if you are using older tires that is going to happen. If you are feathering the inside of the tires that means the front is pushing or the kart is bound up overall. Try changing some of the chassis bars or rear width, dont remember what way to go on caster etc on a kart to help that problem anymore.
