Given that Oklahoma State Department Of Health’s data reflects that the number of COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma has increased from 29 on March 18 to 377 today (just 10 days later), I am relieved to hear that KART has wisely decided to cancel the race.

Best wishes to KART and all its competitors for a safe and successful event.  Unfortunately, I will miss this year’s event due to a schedule conflict. However, I will be supporting the race through a class sponsorship.

KART is a great organization that IMHO “gets it” when it comes to the original mission of the sport. Those who can should support this race– great racing at a challenging venue.

Thanks, Linda, for keeping us updated on Mike’s condition.  I am encouraged to know that he is making some progress toward recovery.  I also appreciate that you have chosen to focus your posts on the most important factor at this time– Mike’s situation.  (Dealing with the rest of the incident can certainly wait.)

In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with Mike and his family.  May he make a complete and speedy recovery.

Great report on the new Horseman axle clutch.  I have long believed that the supplied engine clutches on TAG engines were totally inadequate for road race applications. Happy to hear that Horstman realized the need and stepped up to the plate, and perhaps more importantly, that KART is not “married” to the spec “package” programs that have had unintended consequences.

Thanks for posting, Linda. I have fond memories of the Big D Pacers, with Doc holding the drivers meetings, including my first road race, which was at Green Valley over 50 years ago– fun times, indeed! While Doc is perhaps best remembered for his work putting on races and helping son Jimmy with his racing program, he was also an accomplished racer himself, competing in the old sportsman class of the 1960s and early 1970s. Yes, he did it all!

Charlie and his family were such unselfish contributors to the sport.

While I only really knew him from the few IKF board meetings I attended, I will always remember his great personality and the “banter” between Charlie and Joan at the 1993 IKF Sprint Grandnationals at Batavia.  It was almost more entertaining than the race!

Hi, Linda.  I’ll be missing all of y’all and, most especially, the apple pie– yum!

Just got back from a month-long trip to several national parks in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming– the snow chased me out of Yellowstone.  Had some commitments in San Antonio this week that kept me from heading out again.

Looks like the weather gods are cooperating better this year than at prior Nationals.  Looking forward to your post-race report.

So very sorry to hear the news.  (I know I’m getting old when I see the sport losing my contemporaries.) David and I go way back.

I’m so glad I had the chance to visit with him at Topeka last fall.  Soon after that race I received an email from Richard Peck (Hornet Karts) saying David had been hospitalized in very serious condition.  However, in November he told me David was doing better.

RIP my good friend.  Our sport has lost yet another great supporter and someone who truly understood and lived in the spirit of the karting’s original purpose.
