The “shifter class” referred to has three different body and weight configurations.  It is all spelled out in the rule book.

It is unfortunate that Russell Karting is closing.

From my jaded view, too many of beginning karters are taken in by “snake oil salespeople” when they are naive and starting out.  One such business nearly derailed our karting adventure at the onset.  We recovered from spending on these hucksters,but many never do and quit almost before they get started.

Russell had to compete against these world class know it alls with slick sales pitches and little else.  I keep my mouth shut in the paddock,but when asked, I try to point newbes in a good direction.  To someone like Russell and others who actually know and care about their customers.

I’m sorry to see Russell go…such a class act.  They will be missed.

Sorry I took so long to respond, but you are correct.  I had to track down an RS piston.

The RS piston has the ring gap at a bridge and the 2005 piston has it in the gap portion of the intake.  That said, the 2005 ring gap looks to be supported pretty well by the bridges on each side and the gap perfectly in the center of the intake.  I have run many of these 2005 pistons and I have never suffered a problem from the the ring gap.

This is the cool side of the piston.  I would look for problems on the exhaust side,particularly the top of the exhaust bridge showing a little cracking.  This will catch a ring in a New York second.

I have been told that drilling a couple of holes in the 2005 piston to cool that bridge won’t hurt(RS piston sports two tiny holes).

So, that being said, I haven’t seen a problem with the ring gap you describe.

Motion Pro makes a cable ‘luber’ so you can spray the lube into the tube.  I just stick the red straw device into the end of the cable holder and squirt.

Heat shrink tubing is a good way to keep the fraying down.  Solder is better

I can’t believe that the brain trust(dare I say) came up with the idea to run the KART classes in the rain so the track would dry so the WKA races could follow.

Brilliant move that let practically every one run their selected classes for Sunday.

Quite the spirit of cooperation.  I’m sure both Read and Harper take credit for it…..and so they should.  Great race!

What Matt said.  Be sure the pilot jet hasn’t picked up any trash.

First you need  to look at the literature available on how a PWM  works and the relationships of the needle and jets over  RPM.

And be careful,use only Kehin jets so that the taper fits the needle.

I am no carb expert, but knowing how it should work will point you in the right direction

The box ends you will find these days are too fat to get in there.  An old Craftsman from the 60s is almost thin enough,but some grinding is still required.  The Motion Pro wrench is way too fat but it is necessary to put your torque wrench on.  No tighter than those nuts require,grinding won’t compromise the strength of the wrench.  However, I keep those wrenches in a special place and use them only for those nuts….don’t want to chance them popping when trying to loosen something really tight.

But the  heading area says: Roadrace rules same as 2014.

I contacted them.

Rule 620 is unchanged so the stock Honda is 1999 for roadrace.

Noah,not to be argumentative, but we anal types who use the 2005 piston have had good success and no failures.  That said, I have a box of those pistons run one race weekend.  At the distance we travel, putting faith in any piston for too long can ruin a trip.  If this man wants to use the $51 Honda piston he must know that it is vulnerable and has limits like everything else.

Pistons don’t last long.  Write it on the wall

I’ve only dealt with Millennium,but heard good things about U.S. Chrome.

Pegasus makes a shirt with cooling capabilities.

There is a can of coolant that you can spray through the suit to cool it off.  The can is smaller than a paint can.

It  works, but it is just one more thing to keep up with.
