Hey Jack,

 

Someone just contacted me about the kart late last night and as of right now it looks like it’s sold.

 

I do however have another kart available that’s almost identical in condition. See Kalvin Chen’s post of his 2014 TonyKart Racer with Complete MRC CR125 Engine package. His kart is currently in our shop as well, and can be shipped anywhere in U.S.

I was going to just let this go, but it’s too ridiculous. People, get out of the 1970’s already.

 

Dave, your kid’s already driven one and is asking to do it. Give him the chance, and he’ll be having more fun than he’s ever had before, while developing himself as a driver at an incredible rate.

 

As a fun fact, I started driving shifters when I was 15, and before that I drove a TaG for about 4 days. It’s not about machismo or anything like that; just give your kid a challenge like this and watch how fast he matures as a driver.

I stumbled upon this forum topic awhile ago, and I think this is something really important that we as an industry need to know and understand. One of the most important things we need to do is to clarify the intentions of karting, and I think we need to go after the line of thinking in Mike’s 3rd description; that karting is an end in and of itself. It is not just a stepping stone to be looked over and trampled on. We are a sport and an industry that deserves to be so much more than that. But anyway, after thinking about it for awhile, and thinking how I would describe it to someone without a clue about racing or karting at all, here’s what I came up with:

– Karting is like the craziest roller coaster in the world, but you’re in control. It’s you and your constantly developing skill level that determines how far you can push the edge when your only an inch off the ground, inches away from fellow competitors. Further, karting is the purest form of automotive racing in the world, and the relationship you build over time with the kart and its dynamics is something that cannot be described, only experienced.

^ Bob you’re on it; most important thing you can spend your money on is seat time.

It’s a shame you don’t have a permanent shop in SD, but luckily everyone who runs at SDKA are great guys. Look out for Jeff Shadoan on his new Tony down there, he’s a great guy and I think he’s selling his Intrepid for a good price if you’re interested, and also Bob and pretty much everyone else will do their best to help you out.

As for what new chassis to buy, we’ve had lots of success with our Tony’s and I believe Jeff has been running pretty well at SDKA with his. I personally know CRG’s are very impressive, and if you get one, make sure you get the new Road Rebel – Braga.

It really depends on you and what you want, but to limit it to the best 2 choices would be:

2013 Tony Kart Racer – EVK

2013 CRG Road Rebel – Braga

The Tony has a wider tuning window and is always fast right out of the box, but can have trouble in certain situations. The CRG has a smaller tuning window and may require more changes throughout a race day, but when they’re on they’re brutally fast and almost impossible to beat. The Tony’s reward a more relaxed and smooth driving style, the CRG’s reward a more aggressive, push-the-limits driving style.
