The KMI show was nice, but long gone.  It was at it’s best when at Pheasant Run, IMHO.

The Winter Kart Show in Springfield is a nice show, albeit considerably smaller than KMI was, but it’s growing, so we’ll see where it goes.

A show alongside the SuperNats sounds nice on paper, but logistically and financially, I wouldn’t even consider it.

You’re probably right about why it changed, but you’ve stumbled on the correct settings.  A properly tuned Leopard will be have a tan flex and it shouldn’t be wet or oily.  You were likely very rich before.

And just in case you don’t know what IN & OH people call a “Cornhole” game, it’s called Beanbag Toss around my part of the country.  We don’t want fans of the movie Office Space getting the wrong idea.

Mark,  I PM’d you about a tire rack I have earlier this week.   I still have it if you’re interested.

Wow, that’s an antique.  I don’t know what you’d do with it.  Its cool, but it’s so rough.  Maybe some of the old timer road racing guys will chime in here and give you some useful info.  Personally, I wouldn’t give anything for it, but maybe a laydown enduro guy will tell you its worth something.  Good luck.

I have a 2004 GMC 2500 Crew cab with 6.5′ bed and topper.  The kart will fit nice and snug with the bumpers on with no problem.  The stand goes on the hitch mounted carrier, all the lighter stuff goes in and around the kart.  The toolbox and heavier stuff goes into the backseat with the seats folded down.  It works.
The electric stand cant possibly cost in materials as much as they are being sold for. almost a grand for some. I can get two rollers for that much or one really nice one!
Lol…

I doubt the materials cost factor into in that much.  I do agree that $1k for one kart stand is a lot of money though.  Although I know some people that think $200 is way to much for a stand, so I guess it sorta depends on what it’s worth to you.

in reply to: Why do some kart MFG's make different wheelbase sizes ? #7389

I know they do it in cadet karts because the shorter wheelbase karts will tend to be faster on super tight tracks, and longer wheelbase is more stable on fast sweeping stuff.  Maybe the same reason in senior karts.  Its also entirely possible that it does nothing noticeable at all and its just a ploy to sell more karts…aka Marketing. :)

They do need to be tightened well.  When I was really into changing axles a lot, I used to strip out an allen wrench from time to time, but it kept them from moving.  I did the Loctite thing for awhile as well, but eventually I just got them tight and didn’t need to mess with it.

If you mean more than one chassis brand, I can’t think of any, but I suppose they could.  There are plenty that import one, but also distribute others.  Then there are those that import multiple lines, like maybe a kart line, and a seat line, and perhaps a bodywork line.

    Hi Chris,

Of course I’m partial to one brand, but to me, it comes down to value.  Which one puts the kart up and down conveniently and at the right price.  Only you can make that decision.  Perhaps pay a visit to Kurt Mathewson (Evolution Karting) at PBIR and see if he can let you try a KartLift out.  We’ve been doing this since 1999, so there are a few out there.
P.S. I got a KartLift (Pro model) along with my kart. It’s freaking awesome. Great design, excellent execution.
Thanks!  Glad to hear.

One more thing to keep in mind is that you may not want the exact same weight distribution in Yamaha as you would in Tag.  Usually you’ll want the rear a little higher in the Tag to keep more weight on the rear tires, but this can also fall to driver preference.

We don’t do the helmet mounting thing, but I know someone who did once and he said mounting it on the side of the helmet, made his head turn sideways in the wind.
just a heat issue and not a problem if it makes it the length of a race day
So are you asking or stating this?

Everything will overheat and warp, causing unpredictable performance, and ultimately the clutch will be ruined.

That probably would not last very long.  You really need at least a 2 disc for that application.

I don’t know where you’re located, but the demand for KPVs is very low in the east these days, with the class sizes dwindling many places.  You should be able to pick one up relatively easily.  The Leopard would definitely be worth more, assuming its in decent condition.

    Hi Phil,

There are tons of us out there trying to sell used karts, but it would be more helpful if we had an idea where you are located and where you might want to race.  For instance, I’m in WI.  I have a kart for sale, but if you’re in CA, then it doesn’t make a lot of sense for you to be interested in my kart, when they’re probably dozens in your area available.

I don’t really see anything detrimental, other than the huge drop in performance.   The clutch might wear out faster from the starts.  If all you’re doing is joyriding, and not racing, then it should be okay.
