Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipant
Yes, great news. We put the kart on the table And supported the rear axle level. Then measured the height of the kingpin brackets and they were within 0.020″, which is almost nothing. No front to rear curvature either. It’s going to scale just fine!
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantTaking chassis to CKT racing to check for straightness tomorrow. This chassis has seen only a handful of track sessions since 2010. History before that is not known.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantSorry to ruffle your feathers Walt, and I don’t claim to be an expert. I wasn’t aware I had to be completely ignorant on a subject in order to ask a question about it. I do have a background in Mechanical Engineering and powder coating though and your initial statement was blatantly false, for which I wanted to set the record straight for other readers. Sorry you took it personally. I specifically asked if anyone had done what I proposed.
And again claiming 850 wouldn’t affect the frame at all without defining the duration is also wrong. It’s time sensitive. Look up tempering of 4130.
I’m not here to war with anyone or compare d*** sizes. Just looking for the truth and insight from someone who has already been there and done that.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantHaha sorry Freddy, I did mean Tim. I’ve done this a few times using the standard sandblast to strip and actually did make the mistake of not plugging the close fits of the shifter lever and steering column spherical bearings on the first one.
Although I think it wouldn’t change the properties of the frame, I’m not going to bet a chassis on it and play it safe until I do some tensile and hardness testing of cheap sample pieces. And the color will be the original Italkart red, or at least as close as I can get!
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantYou nailed it. It is the process used to clean off used hooks for powder coating. I found some tensile test data that showed an increase in tensile strength if tempered around 1000 F for 4 hours but this is nowhere near that long. It would be an interesting experiment, but not worth it this time. I think I will make up some samples and do some testing though. It would be nice to use it in the future as it’s fast and easy!
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantPaolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantYou might want to double check that info, as it’s incorrect. Also it’s chrome moly. Not sure what chromalloy is.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantItalian motors and Stone Kart make one man stands around 400 or less if you’re trying to save some cash over the 700-800 dollar models

Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantI sent you come Grattan and Gingerman files. Good luck. I just updated this year to the GPS and I’m sold.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantOh man so sorry to hear. Having similar year supersonics myself I can relate. I’d freak! It sounded like you were describing my karts with the bodywork description. I’m planning to sell 3 of em (an 05 and two 06’s) over the winter or in spring so don’t be surprised when you see em for sale. You’re welcome to come see them if you might be interested. After having my car broken into I’ve decided motion activated security cameras are well worth the investment. As I usually do, I’ll keep my eye on craigslist classifieds in Janesville, Milwaukee, and Madison area.

If you do end up changing gearing frequently keeping a couple different length chains for when you do gear changes makes it so you don’t have to move the motor very much, which changes your f/r weight balance, though not much. Just make sure you keep it oiled and put the clip with the closed end leading and replace the master and clip after a half dozen or so removals and reinstalls. Never had a master link or clip failure in 10 years.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantCheck your hot pressures. If your fronts are raising much more than the rear, take grip out of the rear according to the setup guide from your chassis manufacturer. Jim is spot on.
Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantpm sent

Paolo Nunzio LicaryParticipantI’ll take the Keihn jet kit. How would you like payment? I can do paypal.
