Morgan SchulerParticipantThe average Yamaha racer isn’t performing their own machine work and an established engine builder might not share that information. Maybe try searching on eknclassic.com in the old forums? You might have to test and experiment for yourself…
Morgan SchulerParticipantI would guess TaG, Yamaha, LO206, and Shifter classes will be run at Indy.
Choosing a kart or class based on what is run or popular throughout the country is a losing proposition. The sport is just too fragmented. That said, LO206 is probably the only class ran nation wide under the same engine rules with good numbers no matter where you go. Get a LO206 and have fun.
Morgan SchulerParticipantAnother option is 80cc engines. Honda CR80, Suzuki, and Yamaha’s were all popular. 80cc will be cheaper to buy and operate than the 125’s and be a good introduction to karting. If you’re NorCal call http://www.leadingedgemotorsports.com

Morgan SchulerParticipantThanks to Ryan Wheeler and 61 Kartway for organizing a great event. If you didn’t make it you missed a 20+ kart LO206 class that actually paid money back to the top 3!

Morgan SchulerParticipantA few updates:
Yamaha Sr. Supercan will run one class at 350lbs.
For classes requiring 87 octane pump gas: that fuel must be non-ethanol and purchased from any Kwik Star gas station.
Finally, it sounds like a good group of vintage karts will be in attendance and racing!

Morgan SchulerParticipantStart calling CA kart shops who are Pro Tour regulars and see if they’ll throw it in the trailer going to SummerNats at New Castle. Or:

Morgan SchulerParticipantNo idea how smooth it is but if you’re coming all the way from NE you might as well drive the extra 2 hours to 61 Kartway and actually race. The only way you’ll get on the Marshalltown track is during one of the autocrosses. Besides autocross, karts haven’t been on that track in 10 years. I’m not sure if the autocross uses the entire track or not.
You could come to 61 Kartway practice all day Saturday, race Saturday night, spend the night and practice all day Sunday to make it worth the drive.

Morgan SchulerParticipantI have a 6×12 now and it works perfect for 1 kart. If you want to haul more you’ll need a stacker stand or stand them up. Mine is a v-nose with a workbench up front and a bunch of Pit Pal products. Whatever size you buy, you’ll fill it up and want more space. If I get another trailer it’ll be an all-aluminum 7×16 set up like this:

Get everything you want installed from the start. Wire it for lights/outlets/shore power hookup and get a quiet portable Honda/Yamaha/Briggs generator. Finished interior and rubber coin floor is nice but isn’t essential. An extended tongue is great for maneuverability in tight paddocks. Skip the awning on the side and just go with EZ-Ups. If you don’t already have a compressor and air tank go with a nitrogen tank setup. Put E-track down the sides and recessed d-rings in the floor.
Morgan SchulerParticipantI had no idea someone bought MAM and started doing improvements. Between the flooding and continually losing money the track and facilities really took a beating. It’s good to see they are making improvements.
That said, there is almost no karting presence in western Iowa/eastern Nebraska (besides dirt). While you might be able to run a kart at MAM/RPM they don’t have club racing or host a series. Your best bet is to look at KART MARRS road racing series (kart.org) or head out to Motorsport Park Hastings (racemph.com). MPH actually has club racing but I have no idea what is popular or which classes they run.
Morgan SchulerParticipantThe only sprint track in Iowa is 61 Kartway north of the Quad Cities. The Rock Island Grand Prix is Labor Day weekend in Rock Island, IL.
In Nebraska your only option is Motorsports Park Hastings. I’m not sure if they have a dedicated kart track or run everything on the big road course.
Jamaica Raceway is a paved oval west of Des Moines.
For indoor karting you have MB2 Raceway in Des Moines.
The rest is dirt racing and you can find a dirt track just about anywhere in Iowa and eastern Nebraska. You’ll have to search Bob’s 4 Cycle to get specifics on those tracks.
Morgan SchulerParticipantDust to Glory. Baja is BA.
Blown Away, if you can find it. It follows Rad Rides by Troy building Blowfish and racing it at Bonneville.

Morgan SchulerParticipantOn the chassis, I’ll just say you can get a smoking deal on 1 or 2 year old equipment right now. Old and worn out is old and worn out.
Unless you’ll be racing in a spec PRD class I’d skip that too. A PRD isn’t competitive in a normal TaG class. So, no, its not a winning combo at the regional level. Maybe club racing in a spec PRD class.
If you’re just getting into TaG and want to race beyond local/club racing, you need to pay attention to what’s happening right now with the TaG class and the engines.
Morgan SchulerParticipantCRG sizes, as listed. CRG’s are 3/67 on the fronts and 3/58 on the rears.
Morgan SchulerParticipantIf the parts are still listed here, I still have them. Prices updated.
