It’s not the carb if it was still there with another carb, so as you say check the reeds which is a simple visual inspection and also check the fuel pump and its pipework just in case you are leaning out at the end of the straight.
If you do decide on setup as well then the best option is to upgrade to Jet-Tech Pro as you then get additional features that you would not get if you used Jet-Tech Max and Jet-Tech Kart Setup.
John SavageParticipant
To the best of my knowledge, once you have calibrated your barometer, leave it alone. Make a note on which recording weather station you used and the altitude you used in the calibration setup. Double check your settings when you replace the batteries in the gauge.
On the money, first class advice!
John SavageParticipantJohn SavageParticipantlooks like a well made piece of kit, well done!

Please try again later.John SavageParticipantMark, you say “Maybe I should just replace it with a nice new ’13 kart……” now that’s an expensive solution – LOL
I am sure that when you get to the track and complete your planned tests you will find a solution
John SavageParticipantTim, you say “Actually, as long as it’s true, I don’t see anything legally wrong with naming names. ”
As long as you can prove (beyond any reasonable doubt or what ever the legal test is) then OK, but in my view its not worth it as if it goes legal you will be forced to spend money, and that’s money that at the moment you don’t consider it is worth spending because if you did you would be in court already with these guys you would like to call out.
John SavageParticipantAs Eric advises do not be afraid to change the main jet to see if that cures your problem you will not break your motor provided you are sensible
But as I always say try to borrow a known ‘good carb’ for a few laps and that will tell you if you have a carb problem or that you need to address other areas
Also have a good read of my jetting article which should give the basics of good practice
John SavageParticipantThe RK blue o-ring chain gets my vote as well, I tried a Panther chain once and it broke after half a lap, I could have been unlucky – who knows?

Maybe we should just start listing them here so no one else falls into the trap? The only problem with listing them on here is the time and money you would spend with your legal team
John SavageParticipantThe best way to rule out a carb problem is to borrow a known ‘good’ carb for a couple of laps

Is a tire band used often in sprint karting? For some reason I was thinking those were mainly used in dirt karting. For MOJO’s ie a hard walled tyre (tire) I always use one
For mounting and dismounting I have always found ‘Tyre Tongs’ do a quick and easy job – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jpAhWANLp8
John SavageParticipantTry changing the spark plug
John SavageParticipantHot soapy water always worked for me, then rinse and just leave to dry

thanks for all the replies guys. I sent Margay an email and they sent me back a detailed email on how to set it up. I was also put in contact (by someone on this board) with someone who lives in my area and has had a lot of success running a Margay and knows how to get it dialed in.Great result – the power of ekartingnews in action!

John SavageParticipantYou could buy a motor and win straight out of the box, however much better to get hooked up with a Rotax engine builder who has a track record of success
John SavageParticipantI would think long and hard before you replace your 3 Gold, they are a great unit and I am sure it will not take much to get it repaired and then it should give you many more years of good service.
John SavageParticipantAxle Locking Collars, work great just fit them and you will have no more problems with your axle moving
John SavageParticipantSorry Ray, but a racing engine is NOT a road car’s engine
Set the idle speed for a smooth idle and put all your effort into needle clip and mainjet adjustment in response to changes in air density.
John SavageParticipantWhy on earth would you want to do that?
John SavageParticipantThe purpose is to make a change of format, simply to do something different, without adding time………
Bill, being different does not make it better, how about a poll on here with a number of options

Not going to lie, this new forum sucks!Let’s hope that it does not put anybody off using it because it is a fabulous resource for the karting community
John SavageParticipantAn engine Fiche Check as it relates to ANY engine is simply a check that all of the engine components comply with the current published regulations for your class, this includes dimensional checks/source of manufacturer and checks that no material has been added or taken away.
To complete these checks will require that your engine is stripped down and rebuilt.
