Fast Freddy, any auto parts stores have them. I had very very bad luck with the Harbor Freight ones. Go to a NAPA, Auto Zone, or Advance store and get one. They are all China made I believe and use a simple bourdon tube mechanism. If you run the engine and pull the exhaust off and see discolorization the the skirt ya got blowby with poor ring seal. Take the cylinder off and do the light test to verify it’s an out of round cylinder. Head gasket seals properly? If you had an air comp you may use a leak down tester to check ring seal also. Spend time reading on the net and go to You Tube for great videos. In the future you will laugh how easy it is to check this stuff.  Grab the bull by the horn and learn to do this stuff and not send everything out for others to do. Just my take on it….chi wa wa

160-165 PSI    Freddy, quit screwing around and send the cylinder out to be checked for roundness and you’ll prob have to re hone/install new piston and ring .Yer positive the comp gauge is correct? Do the light test first. Easy fix.

Fast Freddy, pull the head off and raise the cylinder off the piston. Take the ring off the piston and place it in the cylinder above the exhaust port. Hold the cylinder up to the light and see if you can see light around any part of the ring. This is called the light test. I bet the cylinder was honed out of round. Know anyone who can check the cylinder with a inside mic for roundness for you? The ring is free on the piston land also?

Ted I think the 200 figure is a compression volume of 9 cc’s.

Freddy, I should have said 160 plus cut to WKA limits.. .025 squish and a tad over 11 cc’s cylinder volume at TDC. Try your gauge reading against another gauge to verify it’s not a bad gauge you have.     chi wa wa  my friend

At least 160 psi. Ours were 160-165 psi using two different gauges.

Seems when Al Nunley bowed out of the forum fights  the amount of posts dropped.  Come back Al, thats an order! Why be prim and proper all the time, lets take the gloves off once in awhile.

Matt, what happens is the rear wheels heat up and get real grippy. They overpower the fronts, making a push. Give the front end more positive camber which makes the inside tire lift for a longer duration through the turn stopping the push. Works for us every time. Learned that from Mr Koyen.

Check the rotor to see if the magnets are strong. This was the cause for us on several engines. Why they lost their magnetism I don’t know but this WAS THE CULPRIT.

Sean, I always say to myself what’s the most obvious thing to look for when problems arise. Sometimes the obvious sits on our nose and we don’t see it. You are very honest to post this result in this forum. I have did this sort of thing many times and when I think of it my face still gets red. In my case the armature was bad and was caught between poles at times and wouldn’t work. Here’s a link if you ever need 8 pin connectors to replace the stator to harness junction boxes if repairs can’t be easily made to the originals. Yes the wires snapped on me there giving me a prob.

Sean, if you have power to the starter and it has turned over out of the engine my guess is a bad section (open circuit) on the commutator/armature. Do a continuity test on each section where the brushes ride from one to another and see if current passes. When you tried it on the engine my guess is it was in the dead spot on the commutator and not letting current flow through. Happened to me many times. Good luck.

John, yes I’m talking about  the magnetic rotor on the crank, borrow one to try or put a screwdriver to the magnets to check magnetism, I bet that’s it. The external turns it over faster and will increase voltage so it starts occasionally. Happened to me, try it. chi wa wa

Ric, check the rotor magnets, I ‘ll bet they lost most of their magnetism. Just happened to me.

Mr Russell, the seals were new, the axial clearance was .012,balls inward, and crank dead nuts. thanks for the input

Giff, I did check this out  with my guru from Plattsburgh Ny and he made a point. Take the cage out and add balls would make more friction with ball rubbing on ball. Now that’s a ball of a deal like Mr Gerard  wants, sure Sunday will be fine but early. Daytona comes on at 1pm.

Giff, it’s a Leopard. The penetrating mixture didn’t loosen them so I put the cases together today without touching the case’s mating surfaces up on my granite block.

In 1960 I had a Lombard Chainsaw motor. Looked at those Macs in the karting mags but never had the money to git one. At that time I made my own kart and ran the streets and parking lots on Sundays. Stores were closed in those days on Sundays.
