David,
Will audio of qualifying be on the live site? I was only able to see live timing on the morning Q session.
Thanks!
jim lewisParticipantTodd,
The pop and lack of power indicate a lean condition. Light tan on piston also indicating a lean condition.
jim lewisParticipantMark,
What are the measurements on the 2nd radiator pictured?
jim lewisParticipantTJ
Thanks for the detailed explanation. That explains the delta in the cost between the C and the P series.
Andy – I have ventured to the dark side again and bought a Kosmic for the ROK shifter class. I think I will paint it black thought…. I hate purple. Still a CRG guy at heart :)
jim lewisParticipantJosh,
Bent my last T2 and ordered a swift T2 from Curtis and it performed exactly the same.
Half the price as well. I will never buy a oem axle again.
Jim
jim lewisParticipantThanks for the response Freddy. I will check the lines to make sure there are no cracks.
jim lewisParticipantThanks Richard.
jim lewisParticipantWOW! That was a scary crash, every Kart racers worst nightmare. Not sure how many lives you have used Ken but in cat lives I would say you just cashed one in.
Thanks God you were not seriously hurt. The SKUSA team is awesome in regards to safety, usually race orgs get a little lazy with track safety at mid straight as they assume nothing bad can happen going straight down the track.
Watch that bump on the back straight at Vegas – guys like to jump to the right at that spot. I know I will be a bit more cuatios after watching that crash.
See you in Vegas.
jim lewisParticipantGlenn,
Any affiliation with Prokart / SKUSA?
jim lewisParticipantLynn,
Any additional details/info on the Pro Kart Winter series? Winter is quickly approaching down here in the sunshine state – got down to 60 the other night.
August 7, 2014 at 5:48 pm in reply to: EKN Trackside: 2014 SKUSA SummerNationals – Modesto Grand Prix #31653jim lewisParticipantDoes anyone have a link where there are videos of the racing from the Modesto event?
The above clip is just of the cadet kids. That is what you get when you put a 10 year old in a 20 hp kart and say get to the front kid. The drafting in that class is a recipe for pile ups.
jim lewisParticipantJordan,
Thanks for the feedback. You are correct the 01 just seems to pull harder and longer. I personally think the 01 is easier to drive – I know most have argued the opposite.
Interesting observation on the 99- 01 cylinder selection. I only have two 99’s and one 01 so i really am not an expert on the deal. My lap times are similar on both as i mentioned I just feel faster with the 01. The Orlando kart track has a short straight so the 01 advantage is somewhat limited.
I would still like to hear what Jimmy McNeil has to say about Button Willow comparison. The BW track has a long straight so It would be interesting to know the difference in his times, he may not want to give the data though.
Good luck in Modesto this weekend.
Jim
jim lewisParticipantJimmy what would you say the difference in lap times would be at a track like Button Willow between a 99 and a 01 if all other things were equal. I know you have run a few thousand laps there so I am sure you have the data.
My 01 definitely feels faster than my 99, however, it is hard to say at the track I run at in Orlando because it really does not have a long straight and it has really tight corners + I can never seem to run the same lap twice there. My lap times are fairly close between the two engines, one being a ST99 and the a MRC01.
Also a side not – at SN last year in S4 Fisher had the 2nd fastest lap in the final running a 99. He ran a 45.327 VS the fast lap for the race at 45.311, pretty much a blink of the eye. So
Is the 01 is worth 3 to 4 10ths at a track like Vegas with the long straight similar to BW?
jim lewisParticipantChris – Don’t sell yourself short on the talent end of the equation – location maybe yes. You are always fast!
Patrick – I run a -01 and a 99. If the 01 is jetted properly detonation is not an issue that I have personally experienced. I have run both MRC and DDR 01’s over the years.
The 99 shortage occurred around 10 years ago so it really is not impacting the decision at this point.
A rule change regarding cylinder at this point would just piss a bunch of guys off, 95% of Skusa members (S1, S2, S4) are running 01 at this point. Most guys probably would prefer not to add another $1000 paper weight to their engine graveyard collection :-)
MRC and DDR seem to have the formula solved on the 01 tuning. I am sure the ST guys have it dialed in now as well. The engine failures at this point are probably a by product of tuners continually pushing the limits on performance.
Just my opinion – I am a old slow guy so take it for what it is worth. Karting is still the 2nd most fun thing I get to do without getting in trouble. However sometimes the wife thinks I prefer karting to the 1st thing.
Cheers!!!
jim lewisParticipantWhat is the difference between the Zuera and the Baraga? I went to CRG USA and the only list the Havana model.
jim lewisParticipantthey are from a 2010 Krypton Shifter
210mm rears and 130mm fronts with bead locks.
jim lewisParticipantUship.com
jim lewisParticipant08 RR was a great kart in 2008, probably the best they ever made. The kart was so good in fact many of us CRG guys would love to see them make another run at the 08 design. Not sure a 6 year old kart has much life left in though. If by chance it is in good condition the Ven 04 brakes work fine.
jim lewisParticipantWilliam,
Is the kart still available for sale?
jim lewisParticipantReally cool idea. My only concern being a old fat guy as well is I am not sure I have the clearance between my seat and engine to fit the starter. Size large seat only leaves about a 1/4″ clearance.
Sure would be nice though. The Hegar Bros. are innovators.
jim lewisParticipantJohn,
Are you running an actual 99 bottom end or is the engine a 99 kit motor with a 99 cylinder currently on it?
If it is the stock Honda kit motor you are running, which is actually a combination of different years parts the 01 will work just fine. The 01 cyl is what the majority of skusa racers are running at this point.
jim lewisParticipant23 years for me and she still knows it’s undefeated. She sure gets mad at the mistress (kart racing) when she see’s how much money I spend on it.
Jim
jim lewisParticipantYes ARP is a challenging track for sure, drove there once and my neck was sore for a week. Tough track for an old guy like myself.
Like you, I enjoyed 103rd the first few times there as well. But after a few months going there it gets pretty boring even in a shifter, just my opinion.
Great group of guys like Andy at 103rd though.
We are really fortunate in Florida to have so many great tracks to drive at. Florida has to have more tracks than any other state. I hope someday to make it to them all.
Better than sex? In my book sex is still UNDEFEATED! Karting is solid #2 though for sure.
Cheers!
jim lewisParticipantGet well soon Jerry!
jim lewisParticipantGreat track to visit, however, Brian would be bored as hell if he drove the track 3 times a month. The track is high speed for sure but boring as hell. He would grow tired of blowing thru 5 gallons of fuel in a few hours and not even getting tired from driving.
I look forward to seeing you and Mathew in Orlando and watching you on a real sprint track. Be careful 1st time out, the track throws a lot of technical and challenging sections at you real quick. OKC is a real go kart track;)
Happy New Year Andy!
