Joe BowenParticipantSOLD please delete thanks EKN
Joe BowenParticipantWent to ebay with pictures
Joe BowenParticipantAny reasonable offers? There going to eBay Sunday
Joe BowenParticipantMan oh man I counted UCONN out along time ago. Great pick and come back for first. I’ll be happy with second though
Joe BowenParticipantTony covered it pretty well but I’ll share my experience as last weekend was my very first kart race weekend. I lost track time by not having my steering wheel to stem bolts wire tied, like Tony said that stuff isn’t fun to do at the track luckily I had long enough spare bolts to just double nut the three bolts. Second was being new and not fully understanding when to be staged on the grid and ready for practice I missed one of my practice sessions. All this was first day and on my own mistakes and after day two I feel pretty good about what’s going on. Also take the time to learn exactly where to enter pit lane, park your kart stand while on track and where to exit pit lane I just watched a few heats to see what everyone else was doing. Most important thing is have fun and don’t be discouraged, I left the track after my first day feeling like I was in over my head but now I’m going into it with a lot of really good goals I want to reach!
Joe BowenParticipantNot the outcomes I wanted today but I think I have it locked up! Sweet
Joe BowenParticipantI have the Mychron 3 with the temp sensor that threads into the cylinder head on the Rotax. I’ll have a RPM sensor by next race. I know last race it was temping at 114-118 from what I’ve read that’s on the cool side
Joe BowenParticipant
What were your max rpm’s on both days and did you run the same gear ratio? You can tune with plug temps, but the main jet will get more results. Hotter plug on cold days and a cool plug on a hot day. Check your power valve blade for smooth operation.
I’m not sure on the RPM’s the only sensor I had was temp. I’ll have RPM sensor next race in a week. What brand plug does the rotax engine like? I plan on having a wide jet range to adjust, Plugs and gears
Joe BowenParticipantSo after attending my first race last weekend and looking for nothing but “Seat time” I quickly learned that with a kart not running or tuned for the weather conditions made for a long day! My kart ran great on Friday with a 160 main jet NGK BR9 plug but then Saturday temps were cooler and the kart wouldn’t hit high RPM (I call it power band like a dirt bike) until at least 100′ further down the straight than the other karts. So I tried a smaller jet 158 but that wasn’t enough. I was also told the spark plug I was using wasn’t optimum for the Rotax so I question What plug is best and can you use a hot or cooler plug to tune the engine like the main jet?
Joe BowenParticipantI have the same issue 6’3″ and 240lbs. I was about 50-60lbs over minimum weight. I’m also new to this and this previous weekend was my first race! I know I need a diet plan to drop my personal weight. I have an older chassis CRG Heron Plus and it weighed in at 183lbs without driver
Joe BowenParticipanthell yea I’m sitting good go Gators
Joe BowenParticipantThanks for the info Tony i ordered me a mount today! Looking forward to having video of my first year karting
Joe BowenParticipantSo the fairing where would the roll bar mount actually mount too? I was told that it needs to be on the front nose piece below the number plate. Track rules. Thanks for the input Tony
Joe BowenParticipantFound one thanks!
Joe BowenParticipantWhere exactly are these numbers located on the cylinder?
Joe BowenParticipantReading this has me concerned cause i bought a kart as a newbie. I only paid $800 for the kart ready to run with the Rotax but i already knew of some upgrades i need. New seat, Rear bumper and legal tires (Mojo D2) being new to this i jumped all over buying the kart not realizing all these upgrades might be mandatory! I’m assuming my kart is out of date cause the airbox is the square looking style not the rounded style like i see in pictures of newer karts. Hope this doesnt cost me too much $$$$ or i might be better off buying a different kart. Guess i need to get it to the local kart shop so i know what to expect instead of being surprised when i show up to the track :(
Joe BowenParticipantLooks cool looking forward to the release with Apple. I know my son will love playing it
Joe BowenParticipantGuess nobody knows the answer or there really is no answer lol. Only reason I ask is the guy I bought this Kart from claimed to get a full season out of a set of tires (10-12) race days. I was just ordering some tires and started to question if people are really getting that kind of run time out of a set.
Joe BowenParticipantI’m kinda in the same boat I just bought a kart and it looks like some minor surface rust on the axle and front hubs. Any suggestions to get that off?
Joe BowenParticipantGary what do you weigh? I was told to go with the XL as the XXL would be to big. I’m 6’2″ and 220lbs
Joe BowenParticipantMe being a bigger guy as well (6′ 2″ and 220lbs) i’m new to karting and just recently purchased a used CRG Heron Plus chassis setup to run Rotax. After quite a bit of research i’m realizing i need to get a few upgrades. A bigger seat and reccomended to do the front porch extension on my chassis. My concern is with the cost and all these upgrades required and the chassis being an older model than i was told it was when I purchased the kart is it worth investing the money to make this kart work for my size? I’m already thinking of upgrading to a newer chassis maybe after getting a race season under my belt and that is the next question. What chassis do you bigger guys like or dislike for reasons like its easy to add the extended porch or dislike cause no way a xxl seat will fit without cut and reweld of the seat struts, or the chassis will never handle right for bigger guys ETC, ETC
Thanks in advance for any input just a newb trying to get advice :)
Joe BowenParticipantBrian i sent you a message. And thanks for the input on the size of the seat i was jsut going off the actual measurments of the seat i have and then judging what i thought would work!
