Chad LandersParticipant
James, let me know if you bring one to Blackhawk. I’ve got one and I’d bring it if the class size was decent.
Tony, Like I said before I’ve been asked a few times to break my seal when I had one. Never had to after bringing Dave over and explaining to Tim there was no need. I don’t care if you want to break the seal, just don’t make the owner foot the bill. If one of the few rebuilders that are there will re-seal it at the track then fine.
I know Jeff wasn’t really happy about it and I remember Jim from CKT saying he didn’t have any seals with him at the track at that time.
Chad LandersParticipantIs anyone planning on running a Briggs LO206 this year?
Chad LandersParticipantI’ve got Mychron 3 plus, the one with the box. I’ve also had a standard Mychron with out the box on a Rotax. I have my rpm wire wrapped around the plug wire 3 or 4 times and then zip tied. Never had a problem reading RPM unless the settings on the Mychron accidentally got changed.
Try wrapping you RPM wire around the plug wire first and see if that solves the Mychron problem. If if doesn’t then I’d trade Mychrons with someone. If that doesn’t work then it would more than likely be the Rotax.
I had a weird electrical issue with my Rotax. Sometimes it would start and then others nothing. It would sometimes die taking off on the grid. Ended up being the ground wire on the coil relocation bracket. I recently removed it and had the ground wire on the opposite side of the coil bracket changed it to the other side and worked perfect.
Also check the crank sensor plug on the bottom of the backside of the motor. I had one that came loose and it would cut out badly at higher RPM’s.
Chad LandersParticipantInsert a screw driver up from the bottom through the washers, spindle bearing, and hanger. Go from the opposite way your king pin bolt goes. Either up or down. Most bolts go downward like yours so insert the screw driver from the bottom. As you insert the kingpin bolt rotate the screw driver in a circular motion. That way the washers will center on the screw driver and bolt as you push it down through.
Now, as for your spindle heights. Yes that is going to effect the camber. Whoever had the kart before might have had one spindle lower or higher to get the correct corner weight to equal out the front end. If the camber adjusters are the same both sides and the spindle heights in the hangers are different the camber is going to be different.
If you have the spindle spacer heights the same and the camber adjusters the same the laser aligners should be the same. If not something is slightly tweeked. Could be a lot of things. Frame, kingpin bolt, spindle.
It is just going to take time and trial and error to get the lasers to equal out. You may have to adjust one side differently than the other to get the same measurements.
Looking at your pictures you need to adjust the left side. Take the positive camber out of that side. That should drop the laser down on that side and raise the other side, right side up. Try and get both sides to slightly negative camber. Then things will start to get easier to adjust.
Good Luck.
Chad LandersParticipantStill looking for one.
Chad LandersParticipantI want to know why CES doesn’t honor the Rotax seals. I’ve been asked in the past to break my seal by our tech guy Tim, I think that is his name. I remember him saying how do I know it is legal or not. Well the fact that is it sealed and stamped on the Passport shows it is legal. I had to have Dave Larson come over and tell Tim that it was good and I wasn’t going to break the seal. I don’t want to pay $200 or whatever it is to re-seal my Rotax.
I know Jeff had to break his seal at the last Blackhawk race.
If CES follows Tag Usa rules they should honor the Rotax seal. This is completely un-called for.
I now run without a seal on my Rotax for this reason, but having to break the seal so the tech guy can tell you it is legal is complete B.S. If our tech guy wants to break seals then he needs to be Rotax certified so he can re- seal the engine for free instead of passing the cost to the racer.
That is my rant for the day. Please continue on as normal.
Chad LandersParticipantJeff, I love Grattan, but it is very long haul for me. Going down around Chicago an then back up. Plus I have a hard time getting enough days off in a row to go that far. I’ve looked into taking the ferry across, but they charge so much with a trailer.
I may try and hook up with Scott in Fondy and carpool over. But not having all my parts and tools would kind of suck. I know we could all share stuff and we all wouldn’t care either way. We are all just helpful like that. I’d like to at least try it once.
My plan is to make both Blackhawk races for sure. Might try a Michigan one if time allows. But I’m actually looking forward to the dreaded dirt roundy round kart I bough this summer. I’ve got 3 tracks within an hour and half of me.
Chad LandersParticipantI really like Gateway. I think the timing for the event last year was bad though. Being Mother’s Day and all. That placed used to get good turnouts when we had decent weekends.
What happened to the Milwaukee Mile? I’d kind of like to go back. It is centrally located for most of our driver base.
Did we all just decide is wasn’t karting friendly? I know some of the entries on and off the oval were sketchy, but what if we got some of new style safety barriers that we didn’t have back then.
I should be at both of the Blackhawk races. But not looking too likely on the Michigan ones.
Chad LandersParticipantI still need a radiator. Can anyone out there help me out.
Chad LandersParticipantGo to this thread on Badger Kart Club. I have some information on there.
http://badgerkartclub.com/db/index.php?topic=2695.0
There is also a thread on the ekarting classic form. Search my name on there if you can.
If you need more help just let me know.
Chad
Chad LandersParticipantI sent you guys private messages.
Chad LandersParticipantI’m still looking for one. Send me a PM and let me know how much you are wanting for it. I’d like some pictures of it too if you can. I’ll send you a PM with my email address.
Thanks, Chad
Chad LandersParticipantI posted on the other thread. Yes you can external start a Rotax.
Chad LandersParticipantTry rolling the batteries to see if they will make better contact. Sometimes you will have to mess with them to get a good contact. I had one that gave me fits for a month and then finally stopped turning on. If rolling the batteries doesn’t work contact AIM and send it in. Their customer service is very good and turn around time is pretty fast.
Chad LandersParticipantYes, you can start the Rotax with an external starter. You will probably never really need to,but if you already have one I’d keep it on hand. You just need a 17mm socket.
Chad LandersParticipantAnyone out there have one of these old style radiators?
Chad LandersParticipantThere is a difference between the old style and new style clutch. The new style is much better at standing starts. No question. But when I ran the old style clutch I was never left in the dust as Jeff say’s. But I knew of ways to make it get off the line better.
My engine is an 05 or so with the only updates being the Airbox and clutch and I’m able to run up front in CES. But I have noticed some guys got FAST the last year or so by going with a new package.
Just get the new style clutch and airbox and you should be fine. Getting a bad start really hurts in road racing. I’ve had a few of them this year and losing the lead draft right off the bat really hurts. The Rotax is finicky. If you don’t have everything just right your going to be a little slower. I only race about 3 times a summer and if I don’t have everything just right I’ll be about a second off. The more you race the easier it is to get things just right.
Chad LandersParticipantHow much are the pit passes for kids? I think my 4 year old and 11 month old are coming down for the day on Saturday.
Chad LandersParticipantSorry for the low picture quality. That is an original GoPro camera and the battery died about half way through the race.
Chad LandersParticipantI’ll be sending my pre entry in for Tag Masters this week.
Jeff, If my brother doesn’t come and my dad doesn’t want to run (chances are slim on both) I’d be willing to partner up with you.
I was just thinking about the team race the other day. I was going to at least run it by myself to make the donation. I was thinking about pitting and running around the kart a then getting back in and go.
video from the last Tag race in June
Chad LandersParticipantTodd, Yes you can replace the batteries. That youtube link is a pretty good overview on how to replace the battery. I’ve replaced my old style tx batteries. There are 3 batteries on the old style tx. Mine has been working fine for the past 3 years.
