Bruce PeckParticipant
Is there availability of any other parts out there? Disks, floaters, springs?
Bruce PeckParticipantI’m 95% confident I would bring a kart/driver for this (Yamaha sprinter). Like Jerry said, where do we send a check?
Bruce PeckParticipantKelly:
Last year’s times (best time for winner):
Piston Port Hvy (100cc Pipe Hvy) – Rained out
100cc Pipe Med – 2:23.2
Stock Leopard Day 1 – 2:35 (they got this one in before the rain)
Stock Leopard Day 2 – 2:33
http://www.mylaps.com/en/events/982942For 2012:
100cc Pipe Hvy – 2:23.8
100cc Pipe Med – 2:23.6 (Pierce Baldus ran a 2:21 but he and Bernie were DQ’d I think because they had not modified their P-51’s to WKA rules)
Stock Leopard Day 1 – 2:32.8
Stock Leopard Day 2 – 2:33.1

Bruce PeckParticipantWell, if you haven’t seen it, here is one of the primary makers that is leaving the sport. Not a good sign . . .

Bruce PeckParticipantJeff, thanks for the input. I’m not optimistic about this year, but if folks like yourself make your interests known then maybe we can make it happen next year. So far there have been precious few that have spoken up and most of them are the folks that would be there anyway making up a “normal” grid for Daytona.

∆MINIMUM WEIGHTS-HEAVY: Yamaha 380 lbs., Piston Port – 405 lbs., and Comer P51 – 420 lbs.Bruce PeckParticipantKelly: If Lindsay runs the PP Heavy class I can at least be a back-marker for her. At my weight right now I would need two P-51’s to keep up. :-)
Bruce PeckParticipantWell, so far the response has been underwhelming. Thanks John, Glen, and Craig. I’ve had one other individual contact me directly by email (thanks!) and indicated he would prefer Sportsman over pipe. Does anyone read this part of the forum any more? At this point I plan to run my normal 100cc Pipe Heavy (Piston Port) class, but will still mount up a Yamaha if interest seems to pick up. People have to speak up for this to work.
Bruce PeckParticipantMartin: knowing that you’re a Woodbridge guy I assume you will be at Summit Point? Go talk to the Animal sprint guys there. There should be plenty. If you’re just looking for something to get laps in you might want to look at the Briggs LO206 engine and the parts required if you were going to run the 206 class (spec pipe, only drum type clutches, etc.) They’re just a rope pull start so they are simple, low cost, pump gas, change oil, go have fun. There should be a couple of 206 sprinters at Summit so go look them up. I’d also go ask questions in the enduro section of the “other” kart forum. You know, the one for the type of engine you want to run . . . You’ll get lots of input there.
There are shops out there with complete LO206 packages with clutch etc like this one:
http://www.fastermotors.net/LO206ENGINEPACKAGES.htmlBruce PeckParticipantWe’re talking about 100cc laydowns and the 36″ wide sprinters (Animal and 2-cycle sprint – 100cc). The OP was asking about Yamaha Sportsman. R60 compound works great on those – 10-12 lbs. On some weekends I’ve run some of Friday practice, race Sat, race Sun and still have center lines on some of the tires. I’ve given some of my take-offs to budget racers who’ve used them for another weekend. Don’t know about your shifters. Have you discussed your application with Adam Batton at Hoosier? abatton@hoosiertire.com 574-784-3152
Bruce PeckParticipantDart Kart Club has the MyLaps race results out of the scoring system right on their home page.
Bruce PeckParticipantBack in the 80’s a buddy of mine had a 100cc Mac Minarelli. It was a rotary valve motor which looked very similar to the photo below although there were reed valve versions available too. His fins were black similar to your picture. The head seems to be turned in opposite directions between these two motors but it may not matter.

Bruce PeckParticipantChuck Bunnell (Dart Kart race director at Mid Ohio) used to have plans for the crank up type that many enduro guys still use (I have two just like it). Here is the thread on the old eKarting site with a link to his site where he had plans to build one. Problem is, his domain is for sale and not active any more. So . . . Calling Chuck. Can you make those plans available somewhere again?
http://eknclassic.com/viewtopic.php?t=75347&highlight=
Note that you can also make these an electric winch up as well.
Bruce PeckParticipantDefinitely Hoosier R60 compound. Lots of guys have switched and haven’t looked back. They’re consistent and last forever.
Bruce PeckParticipantI heard the big Saturday night party is at David’s house again this year. ;-)
Bruce PeckParticipantHow was the turnout in general?
Bruce PeckParticipantKudos to the Davis crew – Carol, Gene, and Scott. Having the live Race Monitor and the results posted so quickly at the conclusion of each race was great to have. It is how it should be and I know it took planning and work to get it done. Thanks!
Bruce PeckParticipantLooks like it was Pierce, Bernie, then Ryan. The results are being posted pretty quickly at the end of each race at dartkartclub.com.
Bruce PeckParticipantThanks again. Looks like a good battle going on up front in Yamaha Heavy.
Bruce PeckParticipantDefinitely raining per this Daytona web cam.
http://www.beachlive.com/beach-weather-cams/beach/daytona-beach_24474
Bruce PeckParticipantThat’s what it looks like Tim. Red Flag. Hope everyone is OK.
Weather looks very overcast as well. Maybe it started raining?
Bruce PeckParticipantThanks Scott (and Gene). Keep it coming. This is nice to have for those of us that couldn’t make it down this year.
Bruce PeckParticipantThanks Gene. Due to some family issues I won’t be able to make it down this year. This will make it nice to keep track of what is going on. Everybody be safe!
