June 10, 2014 at 5:20 pm in reply to: Need Help Want to Rent a LO206 Jr for Gopro this weekend! #28723Brian MeadParticipant
Pat – Try these guys. http://www.kartwarehouseusa.com/default.asp. They have a rental 206 senior program here in Nashville and its an off week. John and the crew are great people, and have been at it forever.
Brian
Brian MeadParticipantI remember him blowing up both motors on his B-reed housekart at Webster. He also could have a bit of a temper. Great guy, great for the sport, He and Lloyd really helped getting the sport to grow. All the tiny maddening bits needed to get the kart together and running were at the shops because of companys like Michiana midget motors and Target. Deepest sympathies to the family, RIP Norm.
Brian MeadParticipantBill- I’m a geezer too, and have been drawn to the LO206 motor and class. To drive a tag fast lap after lap at our age is tough, and as Keith said, a very steep learning curve. My Leopard is quick and trust me, after about 2/3 of a final I was totally gassed and rapidly became a moving chicane. I hope NHKA will look at an adult 206 class, it has a great selling point, its cheap. Plan and simple. Motor is sealed and due to the lack of hp you can make older stuff ( which you can pick up cheap) work. The mistakes you will make will be at a more manageble speed, and allow you to get your feet under you for racing. TAGs are fast and beat you to death, and if you are new, you’ll be trying to catch up to the kart for awhile. Good luck

Brian MeadParticipantDon’t worry about idle, they don’t have to,go back to the first settings, change the plugand as others said, throw a carb kit at it. the pumpers will stretch. The engine surge you mention may be an air leak, you may want to pull the motor off, take off the pipe and carb and dunk it in a tub to check for bubbles. I once had a leak around the spark plug, thin copper gasket and life was good. If its running at all you’ve got enough compression to get it on the track running, but the best idea may be sending it to a shop. you would be surprised how inexpensive builders can be to fix minor problems. Don Grainer and his crew at L.A.D. have seen about a billion yamaha’s (including mine) and I’m sure they could help. Hope you get it running.
Brian MeadParticipantWhat size frame tubes? International spacing?
Brian MeadParticipantBrad- Rienkens (out2win.com) is in Marion Iowa, a Cedar Rapids burb I believe. Couple of hours from you.
Brian MeadParticipantTodd- Thank you so much for posting those films. I hope you had great times with the family, and maybe your dad won a few. No bodywork, no kartstands, enduros that would fit in the back of a wagon, and it sure was a Mac world. More than any of that, the background of the shots are worth their weight in gold. I’d kill for any of those cars.
Thanks again,
Brian
Brian MeadParticipantMake sure the fuel filter arrow points to the motor. May be on backwards.
Brian MeadParticipantSteve- If that is a 40mm setup, I’ve got something you could use. hub, disc, and spacers for the Brembo.
Brian
Brian MeadParticipantWalt- if you go to Bob’s four cycle forums/engine/briggs ohv you’ll find quite a bit of information on 206’s. The owners of faster motorsports and Carlson’s post frequently and are big supporters (yes, they sell them too). I think only Briggs can reseal them, but from reading the forum they appear to last forever and a day. Hope so ’cause I got one.
February 15, 2014 at 11:32 am in reply to: What form of engine did you begin your karting career with? #22069Brian MeadParticipantMac-9 to Mac 91-a to Mac91-b to Mac 101AA to marriage. Back in it in the 80’s with the Yammi and lots of other stuff. LO206 this year.
February 10, 2014 at 7:39 pm in reply to: 2013 MGM Xcelon 4cycle Roller.. Willing to Trade !! #21583Brian MeadParticipantTodd- 5″ or 6″ wheels?
Brian MeadParticipantHad a unique approach on one of their models, don’t know what happened, I thought they were stand alone, not crg.
Brian MeadParticipantWas that a Burton invader? Haul it with the van in the background? I used to take my Rupp -101 and throw in the back of the family Mercury, tie down the trunk lid and go. Throw all the plastic and bars away.
Brian MeadParticipantI’ll send them tommorrow night.
Brian MeadParticipantRiley, have an early 90’s 4 rail kali, has fwbs, not mounted. Surprisingly square, can send phone pics if you have an interest.
Brian MeadParticipantAh- more weight, more to fall off, more money……I don’t see the plus.
Brian MeadParticipantChris – Go look at the vintage stuff. Nothing. Nada. Much, much lighter piece of equipment, less mass flying around, and you knew if you wheeled somebody, you were fair game. I remember a picture of Alex Zanardi, not a big man, just picking up his kart and walking with it. The safety was with the drivers, not the equipment.
Brian MeadParticipantJoe- You will have to widen the seat struts to get the larger seat to fit. I use two block of wood and a bottle jack between the struts. Once you have got them wide enough, go a little more and then let it set for awhile before removing the jack. Use some channel locks to get the mounting holes on the struts as parallel to the seat surface as possible. Have fun, hope you have a good summer with the ride.
Brian MeadParticipantWade- I’m an old geezer and have a leopard, and have run a rotax. Running these things at a competitive speed is a chore and, if you get stuck to the track, absolutely brutal. Neither is cheap, and as has been mentioned both have drawbacks. If you go Rotax, make sure to bring a spare fully charged battery. Its the only way to start them, as they can’t be started by an external starter (no mag). So if the battery is flat, you don’t start. I don’t think you have to keep the motor sealed if you don’t race rotax, and can do some of your own stuff. You will find the tax has a flat spot in the middle that can be frustrating if you drop the rpm’s too much. The leopard will shake you to pcs., and make sure you have an external starter, the brushes to tend to give out on the starter. I warm mine on the stand in the morning to get heat in the motor to help starting. You sure you won’t look at a Yamaha?
Easier on the wallet, last a long time, less to fall off, no $400 trick carbs, (tax) starters locking up and taking the crank off (leopard) and at the end of the day you can still walk around and load up your stuff. Regardless, have fun.
Brian MeadParticipantLooks like a recent Margay. I say recent because they’ve been around for ever, out of St. Louis, good stuff. I believe if you’ve been in the sport for a while you’ve owned/ driven one.
Yamaha can motor, package will last forever, throw a ring at it once in a while, replace clutch linings once in a while, carb kit once in a while. For sure less broken bones than the dirt bike.
Brian MeadParticipantJohn – if you haven’t already you may want to go over to 4-cycle.com forums under 2 cycle/rwyb.
Those crazies are always mixing and matching stuff.
Brian
Brian MeadParticipantBe advised that sobriety is optional at the Flugtags. With good reason. Have fun and please fly responseably.
Brian MeadParticipantwheels coming off at nascar. add this guy, you can’t get in, its ok to let you lead a lap, butyou can’t slow down, positions on the track for sale, to be honest, this has probably been ongoing forever, but the teams were a little more clever in concealing and nascar a bit better in turning a blind eye. They only have themselves to blame, too much corporate influence, too much money, too much greed from the France family, I guess it really is wwe racing. More honest running in karts by far.
