Brian RegganieParticipantKate Regganie is out for at least this year because she has started college.
Tom Regganie will be moving into KM next year. I’m preping a KM kart for him now.
Brian
Brian RegganieParticipantMost kids, probably more so in JA, are well over the minimum weight a year or two before they reach age 15. When we started in JB and my son was age seven, we had 60 pounds of lead on the kart. Our last year in JB we had none. In JA this year Tom was 9 pounds over minimum with no lead and he is only 13. At 5’6″ and 115 pounds, he’s not a big kid. I think most parents will find themselves in the same boat. If the weight limit was not raised, your son or daughter may find that they will have grown themselves out of being competitive and still stuck in a kart for another year or two.
Brian RegganieParticipantThere were no Honda contingency decals for KM at the last national we were at. Does anyone know where they can be purchased. I was only able to find them on-line from sites outside of the US.
Brian RegganieParticipantThanks for all the advice Scott and Robbie.
I’ll be changing to stock springs and a different oil.Brian RegganieParticipantI believe most of the problem was probably the cable which I’ve changed. What are people using for transmission oil? The Honda dealer says they use Honda 80/90 Transmission Oil in their race bikes.
Brian RegganieParticipantIts hard to be smooth when engaging the clutch. I found and replaced a cable that was dragging. The oil that has been used is RedLine light Shock Proof Gear Oil. Currently race springs are installed.
Brian RegganieParticipantI appreciate everyone’s comments. I think I’ve checked and double checked everything that’s been suggested(New fuel lines, reposition fuel lines, carb vents, clean jets, rebuild pumps, fuel pick-up, tank vent ok, keep low fuel level in tank). Short of replacing the carb, I’m not sure what to do next. Unfortunately cold weather is starting to set in and there are no more events. I hate to leave the problem unsolved but I will need to bring the motor in for the winter and pick back up with this in the spring. Thanks Brian
Brian RegganieParticipantI rebuilt the pumps a couple nights ago. I was able to detect a small amount of leakage through the valves of the return pump. On the stand that night I started and stopped the kart numerous times without issue.
I brought my daughter out to an industrial park to check it out today. It started on the first pull. After warming the motor I shut it off and push started it with my daughter. This was the last time it would start without issue. We ran the car through the gears and then stopped/restarted it roughly 10 times. Every time, the motor would not start unless I blew through the vent lines to force fuel back to the tank. The motor would then start in gear immediately or after continuing to push in gear for a short time.
Would it make any difference if the pumps were mounted lower than the carb. Since there is no float, could fuel be running down into the bowl when the motor if off.
Thanks
Brian RegganieParticipantHoses and filter are new. Jets have been cleaned and problem has existed with other jets installed. All four vent hoses are in place. Tank vent is good and I have even tried to start the motor with the tank fill cap off to make sure that wasn’t the issue. I will go through the pumps again in the next couple days. Carb is a PWM.
Thanks
Brian RegganieParticipantSo far I haven’t had any issues after hauling the kart in a trailer for over 2 hours and I have kept the fuel tank level low. I keep the fuel level below 3″ which is well below the top of the float bowl.
Thanks
