      Wrestling shoes are a good alternative. You can find a really cheap pair on ebay usually. I used wrestling shoes for several years early on in my career. They function similarly, with thin soles for good pedal feel and high tops for ankle protection.

      TJ is correct! You can often find them on sale at Big5 Sporting goods as well.
