History has been made in the fourth year of the Briggs & Stratton Weekly Racing Series, reaching the highest driver mark since the program began in 2015. The driver total racing at the participating North American tracks have 2,012 in Senior/Masters with 1,092 Junior drivers combined in the USA and Canada, breaking the 3,100-mark for the first time ever. The Briggs WRS schedule is coming to a close, with the final events set for the end of October. This release of the standings will be the last one featured before the final rankings of 2018 are published near the end of the year.

The leader in the club house remains to be John Buzza of the Manitoba Karting Association. The Canadian club finished up their 2018 season this past weekend with Buzza earning his eighth main event victory of the season. The only driver to beat Buzza this season was Stephen Bachalo, who won the first two rounds of the MKA season. Bachalo sits second in the Briggs WRS to Buzza, off by just 11 points. Third in the Canada standings is Angelo Amorim of the Edmonton & District Kart Racing Association (EDKRA). The end of the EDKRA season has been cut short with SNOW hitting the area and forcing the cancellation of their recent race. Amorim is the top Master driver in the Briggs WRS rankings thanks to his seven victories on the year.

Calgary Kart Racing Club takes up the next three positions in the Briggs WRS. Alan Haggerty is fourth, with Connor Peet fifth and Dave Cameron sixth. Haggerty and Cameron are the top two drivers in the Heavy division (Masters) while Peet is third in the Senior standings behind Tanveer and Naila Deen, who sit 23rd and 20th in the Briggs WRS respectively. John Kwong, in the ninth position, makes four inside the top-10 from CKRC, to put the organization at the top.

Darren Kearnan (7th), Wyatt Gulash (8th) and Jordan Prior (10th) complete the top-10. Kearnan and Prior call Mosport Kartways home, with Darren sitting second in the MIKA Briggs Masters standings and Jordan leading the MIKA Briggs Senior championship. Gulash is the top driver in the Briggs WRS from the South Sask Kart Club.

The top spot in the Briggs WRS for the United States standings has two drivers locked up at 221 points. Tim Roy has held the #1 spot solo until now, with Jamie Bradford gaining enough points to join him at the top of the standings. Bradford has improved from a finish of 123rd in the 2017 Briggs WRS standings, and is racing aboard a in-house chassis he and a friend build called RPM. Roy remains the top driver at the Michiana Raceway Park program, leading the championship standings heading into the series finale the first weekend of October. Roy is the lone driver from MRP inside the top-10 while Bradford is joined by Chris Dugan in fourth from the TKA program at the NCM Motorsports Park. Dugan is the championship leader in the Senior 206 class while Bradford leads the Spec 206 standings.

Third is 2017 WKA Manufacturers Cup Series champion Eric Fagan from the Ohio Valley Karting Association. OVKA is among the largest clubs racing 206 today, with Fagan and Scot Keith in fifth as the representatives in the top-10. The two are 1-2 in the championship standings at OVKA with this past Saturday hosting their season finale. Utah Kart Championship has two drivers of their own in the top-10. Joshua Fine and Ryan Pool are ninth and tenth. Pool, the 2015 Briggs WRS West champion, has three wins on the season and leads the championship standings 15 points ahead of Fine, who has just one victory but a total of nine podium finishes.

Kaden Gray (sixth), Blake Korth (seventh) and Alex Keadle (eighth) complete the top-10. Gray is a former #1 of the Briggs WRS this season, earning four wins at the North Texas Karters in Denton through their Spring, Summer and Fall programs. Korth leads the KRA 206 Senior standings at New Castle Motorsports Park on the back of five victories this year. Five straight wins at the GoPro Motorplex has put Keadle into the top-10 in their Briggs Senior category, leading the series championship heading into the final four rounds of 2018.

A new driver is at the top of the Junior standings with USA taking eight of the top-10 spots. Badger Kart Club’s Logan Julien is the new #1, eclipsing the 200-point mark. Julien has nine victories on the season in the Briggs 206 Sportsman class, which is averaging over 15 drivers a round. He is joined in the top-10 by BKC racers Austin Smith (fourth) and Brendan Ostrowski (10th). Smith is the Briggs 206 Junior point leader at BKC with five wins in 2018. Ostrowski is his top challenger in the standings with four wins of his own, as the championship chase is set to close out at the end of September. Two others call Wisconsin home inside the top-10 with Cale Zimmerman and Cayden Fretwell sitting fifth and sixth from the Road America Karting Club. The newly repaved circuit in Elkhart Lake, WI welcomes racers to a weekday racing series, with Fretwell earning the Briggs 206 Sportsman series championship and Zimmerman placing third.

Former #1 Hudson Tran has maxed out his score at 199, currently sitting in second with his events at the Stockholm Karting Center in Minnesota for the Briggs WRS completed. The same for James Altamirano as the top Canadian driver in the Junior standings for Briggs WRS. His 196-point score is the best he can do from his results at the Calgary Kart Racing Club. Fellow CKRC driver Enzo Sartor is the only other Canadian inside the top-10. Kyle Sheard and Lanie Buice are the remaining drivers that make up the top-10. Sheard, from the Ohio Valley Karting Association, is up from 20th last month to sit seventh. Buice, a former #1 this year that competes at Georgia Sprint Karting Association, has dropped down to eighth.

Created in 2015, Briggs & Stratton announced the ‘Briggs Weekly Racing Series presented by RLV’ program for the grassroots Briggs 206 racers across North America. The premise is to match up racers against other racers at tracks from the same state, the same region, and the entire continent. While Briggs presented the WRS to tracks all over the country, the ultimate responsibility was put on the racers to have their own track or club series sign up for program, and in return both the tracks and racers would receive a prizes at the end of the season, including many of the great products produced by Briggs & Stratton.

The format is simple. Three standings are recorded on the season – Senior/Master is split up by country – United States of America and Canada, while the Junior division includes all of North America. A racer must compete in the Senior or Masters 206 category – or a Junior 206 (Junior 1 or Junior 2 level) division – at ONE recognized Briggs WRS tracks or series, racing in at least seven events in the calendar year before October 21, 2018, all in accordance to the Briggs & Stratton rule set. Each track must be a sanctioned facility in good standing with WKA, IKF, NKA, TAG USA or AKRA. The Senior, Masters, and Junior 206 classes must follow the Briggs & Stratton factory rule set in its entirety with no exceptions (in Canada, the official ASN rule set). The track must submit a maximum of 11 race dates (including rain dates), and the final results within one week following said events. Full list of track schedules HERE.

Points are accumulated based on the first eight races attended, with the best seven of eight counted at the end of the season. Both Senior and Masters drivers compete head-to-head in the standings, while Junior drivers will have their own rankings. Points for Senior/Master are based on three categories:

Category 1 – Quantity of karts participating in the class. The scale is 1 point to 11 points, based on the number of karts. More than 11 karts is still 11 points.

Category 2 – Finishing position. First place equates to 11 points down to 11th place or above at 1 point.

Category 3 – Number of karts finished ahead of (maximum is 11 karts).

Category 4 – Prefinal / Heat win bonus equals 0.25 points

Points for Junior are based on these three categories:

Category 1 – Quantity of karts participating in the class. The scale is 1 point to 10 points, based on the number of karts. More than 10 karts is still 10 points.

Category 2 – Finishing position. First place equates to 10 points down to 10th place or above at 1 point.

Each United States and Canadian Senior/Masters top-50 and combined Junior top-50 in the final Briggs WRS standings will receive prizes.
