eKartingNews.com is proud to present our Preview Series for the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 27. Leading up to the on-track action of the 2024 edition of the marquee SKUSA event, EKN will preview each of the nine categories that will compete on the temporary circuit located outside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas from November 13-17.

Trackside coverage is set to begin on Tuesday, November 12 as the EKN crew sets up our SuperNationals 27 home, roaming the LVMS grounds with Paddock Insider and social media content. Coverage continues into Wednesday as karts hit the track for the first time. EKN Live begins on Thursday, November 14 as qualifying is conducted for both the morning classes and the afternoon divisions. Listen LIVE to the heat races throughout Friday, November 15 and into Situation Saturday, November 16, including the five Last Chance Qualifiers held on the day. That sets everything up for SuperSunday, with the main events for SuperNationals 27 audio streamed live on eKartingNews.com/live and eKartingNews.com/radio.

KA100 Master

Introduced to the SKUSA SuperNationals in 2022, the KA100 Master category has secured a third straight year of selling out, this time reaching a record-setting 51-driver mark as of registration closing on October 28. Single-speed ‘expert’ competition has been at the SuperNationals since 2003, with X30 Master / TaG Master running until 2022 with sold out fields year after year. Now the focus is around the KA100 platform and the competition level is still at its best.

The last two winners in KA100 Master at the SuperNationals are in this year’s field. Defending winner Matthew Waters (Rolison Performance Group) caught the paddock by surprise, coming in for his first trip to Vegas to claim the victory. The 34-year-old from Australia returns for a chance to become the first repeat winner in the category. On the other side, Martin Stone (Rolison Performance Group) is seeking a second win in three years after claiming the inaugural victory in 2022. The Texan finished 10th a year ago, and is now racing under the same tent as Waters with RPG.

Also under that same tent is two-time SuperNationals winner Ben Cooper (Rolison Performance Group). The Canadian won DD2 in 2013 and added a X30 Senior crown in 2018. He finished third in X30 Master in 2022 and runner-up to Waters a year ago. Other former SuperNationals winners in the field include four-time victor Kip Foster, Renato Jader David, and Travis Irving. Foster (BJR/MDR) drove to third in last year’s event, and is seeking that record-setting fifth triumph at the SuperNationals. His wins came in TaG Master / X30 Master in 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019. RJD (Orsolon Racing) won in 2016 in X30 Master and the Brazilian has earned a total of six podium finishes in nine SuperNationals starts. Irving (Formula Works / GFC) claimed his lone SuperNationals victory in 2006. ‘Hot Rocks’ has yet to enjoy any success at the SuperNationals since, with a best finish of 11th in 2016 after five starts in the Master competition.

Another surprise in the top-10 last year was Jesse Gwin (GFC Karting), who in his first start at the SuperNationals finished one spot off the podium in sixth. He’s returning in 2024 along with seventh place finisher Niki Coello (Franklin Motorsports). The 2024 United States Pro Kart Series title winner went all season without a victory in the five events, but put together a string of podium results to earn this year’s championship. Miguel Mier (Orsolon Racing) is on the list of returning top-10 finishers. The multi-time Texas Sprint Racing Series champion finished ninth last year, and has a best finish at the SuperNationals of seventh in 2022 on his resume.

A large group of notable drivers are in the field, which includes 23 drivers returning from last year’s results. German driver Dennis Holler (Racelab) was a great story, winning a ticket to compete at the SuperNationals from a rental kart race, and he finished 11th. He’s back for a second start along with Jakab Nyiri (AEM Karting), who was 12th in 2023. The Midwest is well represented with Mingnan Xu (AEM Karting) and TJ Nevels (Franklin Motorsports), as both will return after placing 14th and 15th last year, respectively.

Franklin Motorsports’ own Jamie Sieracki is returning to the SuperNationals, skipping 2023 after placing 13th in 2022. Teammate Scott Kopp placed a career best 16th last year, as the two-time USPKS ran a limited schedule in 2024. Also returning are Mario Barrios and former SKUSA Pro Tour champion Scott Falcone. Barrios (Rolison Performance Group) is recovered from injuries suffered at the SKUSA WinterNationals in Orlando. He finished 14th in 2022. Falcone (Rolison Performance Group) won the SKUSA Pro Tour championship in 2013, making seven starts at the SuperNationals with a best finish of 10th (2012).

Among those making their first start in the category or at the SuperNationals is Texas Sprint Racing Series champion Pierce Baldus (Hi-5 Performance). The driver from Kansas ran KZ in 2018, and is set for his first start in KA100 Master at the SuperNationals. Also making their first SuperNationals appearances are two drivers from the motorsports world. Former IndyCar and sportscar driver Max Papis (Orsolon Racing) and former DTM Champion and current BMW driver Bruno Spengler (Sodi USA by Velocity Racing) will be in the field. Papis has multiple wins at major events at the Trackhouse in recent years, including USPKS win in 2024. Spengler is no stranger to karting, however, is returning to his roots after 24 years away from the sport.
