thanks for all the replies guys.  I sent Margay an email and they sent me back a detailed email on how to set it up.  I was also put in contact (by someone on this board) with someone who lives in my area and has had a lot of success running a Margay and knows how to get it dialed in.

    Ken,

Thanks for the report. Kids heal amazingly fast. As a PT and dealing with many of these injuries, I would be surprised if it takes him a full year to be back. I would guess less than half of that. Make sure he is compliant with his PT and doing everything he can at home as well.

Awesome. So before I posted this, i already rolled and rolled the batteries. I even scrapped some of the contacts. After reading more and more if these posts I decided to sand some of the contact points. BINGO.
    It now works!!!

    Thanks guys!!

I will tell you what my brother has done. Last year he got interested and he and his brother inlaw bought karts after renting karts several times. He then got me interested and eventually my dad so interfered that he bought a kart too (although is too intimidated to actually race).

He just got his 2 young boys involved and now they race.

He has taken our cousin out, who has now raced just a couple weekends ago and might buy a kart in near future.

He has also taken at least 3 or 4 other friends and their kids out. Most just have a good time for the day of practice, while others contemplate buying karts.

I have taken a couple friends out and have invitations for another. I thought I had one guy hooked, but I think money is a factor.

Wow, no wonder why karting isn’t growing there isn’t even an organized regular national or series of shows to show off the products?

Maybe this is too bold of a statement but if anyone thinks karting is going to go without significant investment and sacrifice, they are fooling themselves. Consumers get really interested and drop serious coin after they go to events like CES, SIMA, Interbike, etc…

Maybe I am seeing things different but when I live in SoCalif and I find it difficult to find a kart shop that is open when I am off work, then when I finally do find an open shop but it mostly looks like a mechanic garage with maybe 1 kart on display and a bunch if karts in the back being worked on, it doesn’t invite new people to the sport.

I get excited and love and have loved walking through showrooms of various sports I am into. Bike shops, moto, surf shops, stereo stores, etc. The eye candy is what motivates people to want to spend money. Even though the economy continues to suck, people buy things that they are really into, they find a way.

It’s too bad that there aren’t some serious players out there that are willing to invest or give back. Maybe it would need to be a group of race drivers like Hamilton, Schumacher, Zanardi, Tracy, etc… Guys that have money and even have a vested interest in the sport to help it grow.

I remember as a kid going to stereo stores it bike shops with my dad and getting really excited about equipment. I still do it to this day, unfortunately in karting the only place to get that is looking online or seeing the karts at a race.

Well I am on a budget. Problem is, that lets you participate but not compete. I wouldn’t even want to race if I knew I was at a significant competitive disadvantage before the race even starts.
I would consider trading a kpv for a leopard I can be reached @ kkartsport@yahoo.com
Tony, I just bought a KPV a few days ago. I will be listing my leopard soon if you are interested.
Just the pipe is different. Probably not wise to drill a hole in a spec exhaust.

But just grab a 3 pipe and throw it on and you should be fine. You can run a bit more RPM with the 3 pipe compared to the 2.

    TJ,

Thanks for the reply, it is extremely hard to find any info on these things by doing a google search. Just doesn’t seem to be that much info out there. So just to be clear:

Pipe: switch from kpv2 to KPV3
    Header: keep same
Carb: keep same and no adjustments
    Timing: keep the same

Trying to find a used one, eBay doesn’t seem to have any and the classifieds on this forum have crawled to a snails pace since the forum change.

Another and perhaps the most logical thing to do would be to sell the leopard and throw a KPV on there. If it could be done without losing money on the deal?

Also looks like there is a jr restrictor plate available any idea if that would work?
12600 is really, really low max rpm for a leopard. You would have to lean out your low speed needles to get it to pull off of corners at all with that low an rpm. And since max torque is 10-12k rpm, right end the end of the straightaway just before you’re about to brake you’ll be in that max torque range the engine is suddenly going to take off like a bat outta hell. It will make for very sloppy driving. I think you are much better off revving it to 14,500 or so and just leave your high end needle on the rich side. You will be able to go 20+ hours without even touching the top end this way.

Edit: you could swap on a JR header and carb and really have just about the same performance as the KPV<br>

It looks like there are a couple jr headers, a 25mm and a 30mm. Any idea what the HP difference is between these? Perhaps a better option would be to drop the rear sprocket 5 or 6 teeth and then put a jr header on there.

I have only been involved for a few months. I have a buddy that was thinking about getting into SCCA racing and took him out to let him drive our karts in hopes of converting him.

Plan on brining one of my dirt bike buddies out soon as well.
