Kerry MatthewsParticipant
A standard pallet won’t work. You may need to add a second, smaller pallet to the original pallet for the kart to fit on it. I had a roller shipped to me last year, and the sender had to ‘make’ a pallet large enough to ship a kart on. The pallet was most of the shipping weight.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantSure, you want to use the words of an insane person, be my guest! lol
Kerry MatthewsParticipantVery close to my explanation, Debbie. I tell them it’s like a street luge with a motor and 6 speed gearbox. I road race also, so you can rattle off names of tracks that they’ve heard of, only to get the normal response… “I didn’t know they had a kart track there!” Then you tell them that you run the big track, same as the cars, but you go faster. “Oh 100, 105 mph at most tracks, maybe 110. 115 at Daytona.” And they look at you like you’re insane, which you are if you road race. ;)
Kerry MatthewsParticipantI went from GoPro to Contour. I had a couple of Hero (non HD) cameras, then bought a Contour HD. I like the video better from the Contour, but as stated above, there was some distortion… at first. You can adjust the frame rate to 720 @ 60 fps, which greatly reduces the amount of distortion created by the vibration of the engine. I now use 2 Contour + cameras on my kart. I use Cyberlink Power Director 10 for my video editing, upgrading from the AVS Video Editor. You can visit my Vimeo page to see my videos.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantCharles, I have the ‘Senna’ DVD also. While it’s a good documentary, it’s NOWHERE near as entertaining as ‘Rush’! Two completely different animals. I remember watching the Monaco GP 2 years ago, and Ron Howard was on the grid, doing an interview in which he stated: “I’m here to take this all in. I want to be able to bring “This” (motioning, showing the entire race experience) to the screen!” He succeeded. This is no Joe Tanto driving Champ Cars through city streets c/o CGI. The cinematic ‘effects’ are making the movie resemble ’70’s movie clips of F1 racing, so that you can’t tell if it’s file footage or stuff they filmed for the movie.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantI’ve been DVR’ing the episodes. Very good mini series! I find the story parallels my current situation, but on a higher level. I have had a spat of bad luck this year racing, and find myself in the same boat… Injuries, damage to equipment, no funding to continue racing, so I have to pick races to attend, the mental fortitude to get back in the car after a bad accident. I am enjoying watching this series!

It’s a bit large, and you might not need that much protection, but you get the idea. I don’t have any issues moving my arm with it on. You’ll want to protect that elbow.
September 1, 2013 at 11:31 pm in reply to: What is the most common injuries in Shifter Kart racing? #8695Kerry MatthewsParticipantHere’s why you’d want to wear elbow protection on your right elbow:
I’d post a picture of the Easton batter’s elbow protector I’ll be wearing when I get back in the kart, but the only place I have it is on FB, and it won’t let me post pics from FB…
Sore ribs most of the time, especially if you’re running on a rough track. And road racing injuries are USUALLY worse than those in sprint racing. but not always… I’ve broken my right collarbone, 3 ribs-all on the right side, and collapsed my right lung. All of those were obtained in the same wreck when I flipped my TaG kart in my second race in it.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantMuch better than reaching down and trying to find the knob at the end of the brake arm! I usually have it set in the middle and only adjust as needed.
Kerry MatthewsParticipant“Hey Kerry, Bummer about the repeat unscheduled contacts but glad to see your gear is working and that you are out only coin. What is the red button to the Left of your steering wheel?”
It’s a brake bias adjustment knob.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantI am unfortunately turning out to be a ‘tester’ for safety equipment in karting. I have had several ‘incidents’ since I got into this sport 6 years ago. Many more than the ‘average’ karter. I had a foam collar when I flipped the first time, breaking my collarbone and 3 ribs on the right side, along with collapsing my lung. I went to a Leatt after that. I was wearing my Leatt when I flipped last May at ORP. No major injuries. No neck injuries in any of the other ‘incidents’. Here’s a couple of the more recent ones:
Kerry MatthewsParticipantGood deal, Jimmy!
Wish I wasn’t so banged up right now, I’d be there. You boys have fun out there!
Kerry MatthewsParticipantSince I can’t edit posts on this new forum, I have to just add this new post with the url for the new ‘edited’ Thunderhill video. So here’s the new one…
Kerry MatthewsParticipantJack didn’t make it up, but most of the guys there were already abreast of the situation. Darrell Hulford wants on the “I’m in!” list also. He’s onboard in Stock Honda.
As for Jimmy McNeil, Darrell Tunnell and Robert Marks, those boys like to come play on the road tracks with us on occasion…. They’re not new to the road racing circuit. They are known at NCK races. They like to come around, kick our butts, make themselves feel good… LOLAnd the pain’s subsiding. No broken or cracked bones found. 6-8 wks. of rehab, then it’s time to start training for racing in my new class, the Stock Hoveround Heavy Masters which is held at the senior center down the street from my house on Wednesdays. I hear they race for bingo money!
Kerry MatthewsParticipantThanks Bill, but I’m probably done for the season. Prelim x- rays show chipped & fractured bones in my elbow. I was on the wrong side of the track to take your advice and stay to the inside… And we don’t toss our dough. I’ve already cut back the fiberglass in the splint so I can sign checks.
Kerry MatthewsParticipantNCK has a race @ Thunderhill Raceway Park on Friday. I’m sure this will be brought up at the driver’s meeting to make sure all are aware of this event.
