Thanks for the links, Joe! Surely thats a better source for bolts than Ace Hardware…

Thats super awesome. Fllugtag looks like a fun event! They were supposed to hold one in Denver a few years back, but it got cancelled for whatever reason. I’ve wanted to go watch pretty bad ever since.

    Woah..

I can’t believe that someone else is having the same problem I am! Its driving me insane. I have an odenthal mount (CR125), but i’ve snapped the front mount bolt several times this year. The case is a bit worn away for whatever reason, and there’s a gap between it and the mount, but that can easily be taken up with a washer. Even still, i’m breaking bolts. I’ve even tried grade 8 bolts with no luck, they all break off clean at the outside of the mount.

Gary, i’ll try your suggestions…(or maybe a new mount is in order).

I did a two- day school at Bondurant, and i’d say it was well worth the money. I went with them because of the relative closeness (Arizona), and the fact that I was able to get one-on-one time with the legend (and great guy) Alan Rudolph. I learned so much in those two days about how karts drive than I think I ever have since, and it was an awesome experience all around.

I would definitely recommend getting some good seat time in before investing. I went with ~1 year (probably less) seat time under my belt, and I probably could have benefited from having a little more experience in karts before hand. You know, having the fundamentals down pretty well so you’re not spending school time on that, and can focus on some more advanced things. Karts are a bit goofy to drive if you’re coming from cars, so its a good idea to get a decent handle on the way they…handle before you try to refine your technique. With that said, Bondurant took huge chunks out of my lap times.

If I could do it over again, I would want to have some relatively competitive times at home, spend some time/money on a local coach, and then head to the professional school.

I use an older Ribtect 2 vest, and it works great for me. It’s my experience that you want something rigid to take & disperse a bunch of the energy. The Ribtect 2 has a hard (Carbon Fiber) outer shell, and some dense padding on the inside. Ive tried some other rib protectors that are just dense foam and I didn’t like them, found they put too much energy into the body, and I would step out of the kart feeling sore. I’ve used mine for solid 6 years now and it’s still going strong (the carbon is showing signs of stress cracks, but nothing has broken yet) and that includes several rough parking lot races. I don’t use the ribtect seat, just the vest and a standard Tillett.

I havent tried the latest (Ribtect 3), but if its anything like the 2, its a quality product…can’t recommend it enough! Racing (and living) with sore ribs suck.

How snug does your seat and rib protector fit? I bruised some ribs a while back and I attributed it to an ill fitting seat and rib protector. They both should fit tight!
