I agree with Larry.  Support what’s sold locally.  It will help a new guy greatly.

As a 6’7″ driver myself, I’ve had extended porch karts for a while now.   I’ve pushed for years to get an bolt on extend porch kit, instead of the fixed porch.  The reason is resale, with the extended porch I can take off the kit, put the original stuff back on and anyone can drive the kart now.

CRG, Birel and Tony Kart all have an Extended Porch.  I know the CRG kit will fit with very little to no modication on a Merlin and Parolin kart.

I know Speedcast TV was at Kart Weeks a few years ago.  I know they were at the sprint track one day and the dirt track the next day.

I haven’t heard that they will be back this year though.

Along the same question is it better to do a 1 on 1 coaching session? or is it better to attend a school?

Both are good options.  The advantage of the 1 on 1 coaching session is that you use your kart and they can help with the setup.

    Bob,

Very few karts come with a setup guide.  I know a few do.

CORSA Kart is made by HAASE.  And HAASE actually has a really good guide on the website.   I have the Haase/Corsa kart How to Guide bookmarked.

Your original question, yes any kart can be fast.  And yes you can buy something have it shipped over here and go at it.  But if you break a part, hope you have a spare.

When I talk about support, it’s having someone that knows the kart and has all the spares.  Either at the track or where I can call Monday morning.

Both those karts have been imported into the States before.  Mach 1 had an importer out west for a while and I believe someone in PA for a while as well.  Formula K was in the states last year with Champion Racing.

The best example of a top level driver winning on whatever brand was Scott and Alex Speed.  I didn’t matter the kart, they were ALWAYS up front.  So with the right driver and support any kart can win.

Support is the key in karting in my opinion.

Call one of the large shops.  I would bet Comet, Franklin, TopKartUSA has them.  Any of the engine builders would also know where to get them.

    Broque,

An old fashion says is once you put roll bar on a kart, it’s not a kart.

You make a bigger seat with more protection, you add roll bar….then you need to add seat belts.  You add seat belts you then have to get fire proof suits and gear.

The cost of karting is already sky rocketing, adding that stuff will just make it worse.
