Aaron HachmeisterParticipant
I haven’t found any problems with my braking systems before, so I’m wondering where you’re getting this from? As far as seats go, I figured carbon fiber was really stiff and wouldn’t allow a whole lot of flex through the chassis. Can you elaborate on the weights idea though? I would think possibly carbon wheels could work, and like steering columns possibly. My thoughts would be mostly anything in the steering or anything that rotates since rotational inertia is ever harder to overcome than static. Possibly the axle, if you can make them soft enough while still being lighter than what we use now. Regarding the bumpers, the plastic ones already absorb a large amount of energy, and I wouldn’t want bumpers that just disintegrate, especially when most impacts are not with large solid objects. Foam bags and Tec-pro barriers work pretty well in all the accidents I’ve seen.
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantReally? I had an Azusa suit and it was so thick I hated it. I can spend money on a decent suit
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantTJ – you sell them in pink by any chance? I’ve been looking for an upgrade in my driving gear for a while now and pink gloves are on the list
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantIt depends, theres two blue OTK chassis, the darker blue/purple of the Kosmic and the lighter blue of the FA. This chassis is an FA from the powdercoat, but the lack of other OTK components is a little strange… The tie rods are OTK, but I’d have expected it to carry OTK bodywork, and the seat. Definitetly interesting to see, granted I’m not the expert of karts by any means. What do you plan on doing with it?
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantI prefer running the pipe to the can but there’s only one series that does so (Thanks Mid-American). Imo it sounds better and is faster than the can, however either way next door will probably complain about noise until we’re shut down
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantBlue frame would be Kosmic if it’s an OTK family chassis, which I’d expect since OTK pieces are all specifically for those chassis but pedals could be interchangeable I suppose. Check the tag on the rear cross bar, and yeah pictures will definitely help
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantThanks for the responses guys, I’ve gotten caught up in school so I had to put this on the backburner for a little while but this was exactly what I was wondering. I mentioned I have an engineering class because I thought/am thinking about making an electric kart kit as the year long project but was not sure if it was feasible to do. I will agree with you Gif, mixing 2 stroke and all that is part of the charm, and I love racing my Yamaha, but at Badger where I race people complain about the noise. I figured electric could get us by that issue, and with all of the buildup around electric cars now I figured why not transfer that to a competition kart (I know there’s electric karts for commercial use but those things weigh like 600 pounds since they’re built for strength instead of speed. Jim, I’ll try to get in touch with them, but it looks like they need a specific chassis for the electric kart? I’m not sure if you know them at all but I was wondering if there’s a general conversion kit to get any kart to run electric. And Matt, are the kits for karts or just all the hardware needed for a light electric vehicle in general? I don’t think 67 HP is completely necessary for applications on a kart but it’d be interesting to have a progression system like we do in regular 2-stroke engines.
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantI figure it’s probably pretty dependent on if anything’s wrong with the engine. I know Comet Kart Sales charges $200 for labor every time, and my builder has given us anything from $300 to $750 depending on damage. If the crank got knocked out of alignment or if I over-revved the engine on accident and the piston hit the top of the cylinder it’d obviously be a little more.
Aaron HachmeisterParticipantThanks, could you tell me how long his batteries lasted? I think it’d be really cool to have a dedicated conversion kit to get an electric kart. Or if they do I’d like to hear about it because I’ve been looking but I can only find homemade setups
