Tommaso Mosca was close to get a prestigious result in Kristianstad’s KZ2 International Super Cup, but was eventually stopped by a technical problem when in the lead. Marco Zanchetta had to give up in Prefinal after a good qualifying.

Things did not go according to plan, and definitely not as they seem to pan out early on in the Final of the CIK-FIA KZ2 International Super Cup, when Tommaso Mosca was very quick and leading the race on Maranello-Tm.

The racing weekend of the young driver of Maranello Kart at the Swedish circuit Asum Ring of Kristianstad has been very strong anyway. Mosca has always been very quick and competitive, flawless and perfect at all times, starting from qualifying (absolute fifth and first of his group), to the five heats (second absolute behind Hiltbrand with two wins) and his Prefinal (second behind Tiene).

Mosca managed to get the lead of the Final after five laps, finding his way past Tiene. He was focused on bringing home a prestigious result but, at lap nine, Maranello Kart’s driver was stopped by the engine at the end of the main straight, right when a strong result seemed at reach. That was a real shame as Mosca would have certainly deserved the podium in Kristianstad.

The other Maranello Kart’s works driver Marco Zanchetta also run a strong race in Sweden, showing all his driving skills. He put in a crescendo of results during the weekend. Started seventh in his qualifying session (35th overall), he then climbed to P12 after heats. The tyres choice for the Prefinal was not the best one (two new and two used rubbers as opposite to the four new tyres fitted by most of his rivals) and this backfired on his performance. A contact with a rival at the chicane and the following excursion made Zanchetta lose some positions and relegated him to the final 21st place, when the 17th position would have been enough to qualify for the final stages. Zanchetta’s performance has been positive anyway, as he once more confirmed to be among the protagonists of international karting.

Luca Iannaccone’s comment, Maranello Kart: “This has been quite a tough season. The whole team worked hard to reach this speed and competitiveness level. We wanted to perform well and we believed that the top step of the podium was at our reach until the end. Tommaso Mosca has been incredibly quick and showed a strong professional growth that placed him among the strongest racers of the category. Unfortunately, good luck was not on our side this time, but nevertheless we showed all our speed and competitiveness. I would like to thank Stefano Griggio, the whole Team and Tiziano Rizzi that have been collaborating with us for a long time, always putting their trust in our brand and contributing to bring it back to such high levels. A thank you goes also to Marco Zanchetta who decided to return to Maranello. Maranello Kart is a small company with a big pride that still has a lot to offer to this sport; we manage to be competitive after all and to match more highly rated companies. Our compliments obviously go to our ‘cousins’ and to Giancarlo Tinini for dominating and taking the victory in both categories.”
