Martis, Collins, Marion and Aden Win So Cal Oval Karters Main Events

Matt Martis continued his impressive season by scoring his third SR 4Cycle main event win in four races when the So Cal Oval Karters visited world famous Perris Auto Speedway last Saturday for the only road race of 2015. Joining Martis on the victory podium was Rob Marion in the KT100’s, “Hubcap” Mike Collins in the Open class and Jon Aden who won in the Wheel2Wheel Speedway Kart class.
Martis start to the season has been nothing short of phenomenal. The Bonita resident has won three of the four races staged thus far in 2015. The series has been to three different tracks so far and Martis has won on all three of them. The series has now competed on both ovals and a road course and he has won on both of those. The only race he did not win was at Wheel2Wheel Raceway on May 16th and he finished second in that one to Jason Voss.
On the road course Saturday, Martis dominated the action by winning both of the SR 4 Cycle heat races and then the main event from his pole starting position. Banning’s Desiree Gaynor was the “Hard Charger” in the main event coming all the way from 8th to finish second with Mason Wilson third.
Marion made the long haul from Oxnard a successful one when he not only captured his heat race on the twisty road course, but also the KT100 main event. Like Martis, Marion started on the pole in the main and he showed local racer Troy McIntosh the way to the Kevin Winter’s checkered flag. Tyler Wilson of Long Beach was third in the KT100 main. Marion and Wilson won the heat races while McIntosh, who resides in Lake Elsinore, was the “Hard Charger” going from his fourth place starting spot to take second in the main.
Lake Forest’s “Hubcap Mike” Collins, who has won in Perris Auto Speedway in Senior Sprint Cars and in Street Stocks, picked up the win in the Open Class ahead of Banning’s Scott Gaynor and Justin Garcia from nearby Riverside. Collins was the “Hard Charger” after starting at the back of the five-kart field. Heat winners in the Open Class were Gaynor and David Holland.
The Wheel2Wheel Raceway Karts were on hand on Saturday and Wheel2Wheel Raceway promoter and sprint car driver John Aden of Apple Valley won the main over Jeff Hinz and Dave Taylor.
Rounding out the show, which was staged under the familiar sunny skies of Southern California, were Junior Class drivers Jacey Voss and Troy McIntosh Jr., both of Lake Elsinore.
The next race on the 2015 schedule will back at Perris Auto Speedway be on June 20th, but this time it will be on an oval track cut out in the infield of the Riverside County speed plant. All adult mains at the June 20th event will be 40-laps.
The popular “Arrive and Drive” portion of the So Cal Oval Karters will be available at the June 20th race. Potential new drivers will get a chance to turn in some laps in a racing kart supplied by the club. The cost is $25.00 for 10 laps (plus the fee to the facility). The “Arrive and Drive” program is designed for kids age 8 and up and for adults as well. Drivers have to wear tennis shoes, a long sleeve jacket and jeans. If they have a helmet, it is recommended they bring that as well, but for those who do not have one, some helmets will be available. Gloves and racing collars will be supplied by the SCOK.
