One of the latest crazes is to strap yourself into a kart for 24 hours, and see how far you can. The newest name scheduled to make an attempt is Canadian motorsports racer Daniel Burkett. In association with KidSport Manitoba, Burkett is pleased to announce a 24 hour Guinness World Record Attempt at Speedworld Indoor Kart Track on February 10-11, 2015. The Winnipeg, Manitoba driver is a former Team Canada member at the 2011 Rotax Grand Finals, and made his way into car racing in 2013, competing in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. Last year, Daniel finished his second season in the USF2000 program, and also went on to score the title in the Atlantic Championship series.

“It all started in the offseason when I wasn’t doing a whole lot. I saw Trey Shannon attempt it and I thought ‘hey, I could do that!’ So preparations began in December and I brought KidSport on board to give the record a purpose instead of just me breaking a record,” commented Burkett to EKN. “The actual training began in January with long endurance stints with less weight and more reps. I feel ready for it and as long as we stay on the run plan it should all work out.”

Burkett will make an attempt at Guinness World Record History by travelling over 733Km’s (455.8 miles) in a 24-hour period on the 650ft long indoor Speedworld circuit. Burkett will set off not only to write his name in the record books, but also to support organized children’s sports in Manitoba.

“I was able to chase my dreams with the help of my parents, but there’s a harsh reality for many underprivileged kids in Manitoba. Without financial support, they may never be able to chase their dreams of being a professional athlete like I have been so blessed to be able to do. I chose to support KidSport Manitoba because they help give kids a shot at doing what they love most, and I know exactly the incredible feeling that comes along with that. It’s been a really rewarding experience raising all of the funds and hopefully this will become an offseason tradition!”

Though Burkett is now living in Indianapolis for the racing season, scheduled to compete in the Pro Mazda Championship driving a Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing entry, he has chosen to come back to his roots for this event and support his native Winnipeg.
