WSK Master Series – Round 2 Report

Mount Vesuvius offered the perfect setting for the closing day of the WSK Master Series second round. The kart race took place on the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno (Southern Italy). It was the midseason round of the series and drivers did their best to climb up the standings before the next two rounds of Precenicco and Castelletto di Branduzzo.
NEGRO WINS HANDS DOWN IN KZ2
Riccardo Negro (DR-TM-Bridgestone) won in KZ2 after a race which kept supporters on the edge of their seats. The Italian had, at last, a good start and left behind him a series of heats where he had got involved in many contacts and had gone off the tracks several times. Negro started from the 10th slot of the grid in Final 2 and managed to close the gap with the top drivers. He, finally, seized the leadership, fending off the attacks of Charles Leclerc (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone) – the driver from Monaco – who had kept the leadership for most of the race, but had to give in and be content with the second place. Third the fast Dutch Jorrit Pex (CRG-TM-Bridgestone).
BASZ DOMINATES IN KF
The Polish Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), thanks to a pace which grew faster and faster, achieved victory in KF. He won two heats, then was the runner-up in the Pre-final and, finally, kept the leadership of the final from the first to the last lap. Nobody was able to keep up with him; it was Basz himself that, at the end of the race, said that his toughest rival was the Croatian Martin Kodric (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega), who pursued him closely throughout the whole race, even though, eventually, he only placed third. In fact, during last lap. the French Dorian Boccolacci (Energy-TM) passed him and grabbed second place.
American Dalton Sargeant (Tony Kart-Vortex) was the top North American driver of the event. Having to come from the Second Chance Heat race, he advanced forward to place ninth, just one spot ahead of Canadian Lance Stroll (Zanardi-Parilla). In the standings, Stroll currently sits sixth with Sargeant in 11th.
MAZEPIN IS THE SURPRISE IN KF JUNIOR
Two Russian drivers, who even have the same first name, occupied the first two positions of the KF Junior standings. Nikita Mazepin (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) and Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart-BMB-Vega) stepped onto the podium together with the Indian Jehan Daruvala (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega). They achieved their result thanks to an impressing series of overtaking manoeuvres, then they took advantage of the penalty which hit the Italian Leonardo Pulcini (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), who got relegated to 10th place from first for an irregularity in his starting position.
Parker Thompson (Energy-TM) recorded another top-five finish, as the Canadian placed fourth in what has been an impressive start to his first European season. Logan Sargeant (Tony Kart-Vortex) was the top American, placing in 12th. Devlin DeFrancesco (CRG-BMB) was 18th in the order while Canadian Kami Moreira-Laliberte (Zanardi-Parilla) did not qualify.
LINDH AT THE LAST LAP IN 60 MINI
An overtaking manoeuvre was decisive for Rasmus Lindh’s victory (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont) in 60 Mini. The Swedish driver delivered his fatal blow right during the last lap, taking away the first position from the Indian Kush Maini (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont), who had kept the leaderships up to that moment. The Indian driver was, eventually, the runner-up. Good performance for the Italian Giuseppe Fusco (Lenzo-LKE-Le Cont): he started from the seventh row of the grid, managed to close the gap and clinch third place.
ON TRACK, AGAIN, IN FOUR WEEKS IN PRECENICCO
Next round for the WSK Master Series in Precenicco (Italy) on the International Circuit Friuli Venezia Giulia during the weekend of 5th May. In two weeks’ time, always in Sarno, the third round of the WSK Euro Series on 21st April.
