Klotz Lubricants has a long history within the sport of karting, one that includes over 60 years of developing products for the motorsports industry. A new product introduced recently by Klotz combines its constantly-developing technology with the knowledge and experience of one of the sport’s legends in Lynn Haddock.

The new Haddock Special Formula two-stroke engine oil is blended at the Klotz facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The blend uses a formula that Lynn developed and refined through years of racetrack testing.

“This is the first time I’ve worked at creating an oil for kart racing,” Haddock told EKN. “For the last five years, we’ve been developing the mixture within the vintage community here in the United States. The demand grew and Klotz came in as a great partner to help bring this product to a large production level to introduce it to the grassroots karting market. Our intent is to not go out and compete with the spec oil programs already in place but to provide an option where oil rules are open to different brands. We’ve been able to put together a great product that all levels of the sport can utilize, including sprint, road racing, oval, of course vintage kart racing or anywhere in the world racing 2-cycle kart engines.”

The two-stroke engine oil is designed specifically for karting engines, using a proprietary blend of synthetic and castor base oils. The synthetic base oils provide wear protection at low temperatures, and the castor base oils provide wear protection at high temperatures and high RPMs. The fluid is additized to mitigate corrosion and deposit formation and can be mixed with either gasoline or methanol.

“My relationship with Lynn Haddock goes back to the ‘70s when I worked for Wiseco Pistons,” said Bob Gorman, CEO of Klotz Synthetic Lubricants. “He played a key role when Cometic launched its karting gasket line in 2000 and we’ve stayed in touch. After our team acquired Klotz, Lynn approached me and asked if we would be willing to develop a two- and four-cycle lubricant, formulated specifically for the karting market. Our in-house chemical engineers worked hand-in-glove with Lynn on this project and we’re fortunate to be able to utilize multiple resources as we worked through the formulation and testing process. The lubricant industry is exceptionally competitive, so we knew Klotz had to focus on both performance and price point. We’re proud of all the work we’ve put into this formulation, and it’s been an honor to work alongside Lynn throughout.”

The new Haddock Special Formula from Klotz is available now through the KlotzLube.com website and coming to many kart shops across the country in the near future.
