Master Shifter

History surrounds the Master Shifter category at the SuperNationals. Last year’s winner Billy Musgrave (Factory Karts) became the outright leader on the all-time win list with his fifth victory at the SuperNats. His first came 13 years ago in the S2 Semi-Pro category and was then followed by three wins in Pro Shifter. Musgrave’s victory last year came in his debut in the Master Shifter category. Now, for 2025, the ‘godfather’ of Factory Karts is coming off his first career SKUSA Pro Tour championship in the Pro Shifter category.
Musgrave is among five former SuperNationals winners in the field. One of the most recent winners is multi-time world champion Davide Fore (Italkart Factory Racing). The Italian finished third last year after winning in 2023. Three others won at the SuperNationals over 10 years ago. Veteran John Crow (Factory Karts) won TaG Masters in 2005 at Sam Boyd Stadium, and he’s finished in the top-10 in five of the last six years. Alan Sciuto (GFC Karting) took the top honors in the 80cc Junior shifter division back in 2002 in the inaugural race at the Rio. Sciuto scored podium results in 2022 and 2024, with a runner-up at the Rio in ‘22. Matt Jaskol – a SuperNationals winner in 1998 in 80cc Junior – is putting together a late deal to run with Leading Edge Motorsports on the same CRG machine that was driven by Brent Crews at the SKUSA SummerNationals.
One driver who has been seeking to add himself to the win list at the SuperNationals for many years is Jordon Musser (PSL / Birelart). A three-time runner up in Master Shifter, the Texan is a five-time SKUSA Pro Tour champion and has seven other SuperNats podium finishes since 2011.

The top four drivers from the 2025 SKUSA Pro Tour standings are among the drivers in the field. New champion Scott Hargrove (Catalyst / Italkart) will make his SuperNationals debut in the category after running Pro Shifter and Pro X30 prior. Hargrove is among five drivers running both Master Shifter and Pro Shifter, including Musgrave, Musser, Scott Presti (Presti / Croc Promotion), and John Baldasare (Birelart). Presti was runner-up in the SKUSA Pro Tour standings with two victories. His best finish in two starts at the SuperNationals is fifth back in 2022. Scott ‘Skitchy’ Barnes (Maranello USA) has five straight starts at the SuperNationals in Master Shifter. The former SKUSA Pro Tour champion finished third in this year’s title chase, coming in with a best SuperNats result of third in 2022. Larry Pegram (TKG / Birelart) has a long motorsports background and continues to enjoy shifterkart racing. Fourth in the SKUSA championship, the driver from Ohio looks to improve on a career best 12th place finish in 2023.
The category is a mix of regular Master drivers and those in the former Super Master category who could be a factor in Vegas. Kevin Woods (RWR / CRG) is coming off a win at ROK Vegas ahead of Patrick O’Neill (RWR / CRG) and Morne Van Taak (VTM / RS Kart), both returning for the SuperNationals. Other notables in the field include Jonathan Vitolo (GFC Karting), one spot off the podium in 2024, and Italian Mirko Mizzoni (Italcorse America). Mizzoni has been among the top drivers in the FIA Karting KZ2 Masters division, making his first SuperNationals start since 2016.
