Norberg improves score slightly to hold top spot over Garrison and now Ingratta

Ryan Norberg continues leading the EKN TaG Driver Rankings since the end of 2023 (Photo: EKN)

The second release of the 2025 EKN TaG Driver Rankings presented by Stilo USA hits the halfway point of the season with plenty of events ahead. A lot of racing – including 25 main events – have been counted in the first five months of the year. Combine the final seven months of 2024 to make up the shifting 12-month period for the standings, not much has changed within the top-10 of the TaG rankings. That includes the top two positions with Ryan Norberg (Rolison Performance Group / Kosmic) and Austin Garrison (Speed Concepts Racing / CS55).

Norberg was able to improve his score from April at the top of the standings, banking on two wins over the three races since. Wins at USPKS and SKUSA Pro Tour have him leading both championships heading into the stretch for the titles. Also improving his score was Garrison, with a best result of runner-up at the SpringNationals. The gap between the top two is now 88 points. Joining them in the top-three Canadian Ayden Ingratta (Speed Concepts Racing / CS55). The driver that began the season with RPG, Ingratta improved his score from the SpringNationals to jump up to third.

Also improving up one position to fourth is Brazilian Diego Ramos (PSL Karting / Birelart). A near podium finish on Sunday at the SpringNationals helped him to gain 43 points and move up one position in the standings. Ingratta and Ramos pushed British driver Caden McQueen (Energy Corse Americas) out of the top-three and into fifth. McQueen made his rankings debut in April with 12 races over the winter and spring, now at 15 with the USPKS and SpringNationals. He was unable to improve his score over those three races despite finishing top-10. His score may remain as is with McQueen announcing his departure from Energy Corse Americas with no confirmation on his future of racing here in the USA.

The next four positions remain unchanged. Pauly Massimino (Brandon Jarsocrak Racing / LN Racing Kart) is sixth. A best finish of fourth at the USPKS Carolina Grand Prix was not enough to gain points, however, he holds his position in the standings. Point total for Timothy Pernod (PSL Karting / Birelart) remains unchanged with majority of his points coming from the Rotax winter programs, including four top-four results at Rotax Winter Trophy and RMC USA West event.

Same for former SuperNationals winner Donovan Bonilla (Rolison Performance Group / Kosmic) as he remains in eighth. The driver from Mexico had two top-10 finishes at the SpringNationals and is ninth in the SKUSA Pro Tour championship chase. He and Canadian Jensen Burnett (Racing Edge Motorsports / Kosmic) are tied with the same amount of points. Burnett holds ninth in the standings with the majority of his results from this winter, including a third at the Rotax Winter Trophy for Round Three. Up to 10th is Blake Nash (Nash Motorsportz / EOS). Spending majority of 2024 in Europe, Nash is focused on building up his resume here in the USA for this season. Nash improved his score with a P6 at the SpringNationals as the SKUSA Pro Tour will be his focus this summer.

Dropping out of the top-10 was Cooper O’Clair (CompKart), falling out of the top-50 with only five events now that he’s moved over to the 100cc category this summer.

The driver ‘On The Move’ this month is Jesus Vasquez Jr. (GFC Karting). The 2024 Texas Sprint Racing Series KA100 Senior champion has jumped over to the headline division in 2025, recording his seventh result to propel him up to 13th in the standings. Of the seven races, third place at the opening round of the WinterNationals has put him in the running toward the top-10 of the EKN Driver Rankings.

It has been since December 2023 that Norberg held the top position in the EKN Driver Rankings. The Rolison Performance Group driver is on a mission to secure a record-setting seventh SKUSA Pro Tour title in July at the SummerNationals and a record tying fourth crown in USPKS competition in August. He has Garrison to beat at New Castle over two rounds for the SKUSA championship while taking a four-race win streak into Road America and New Castle in USPKS competition.

TaG #2 – Austin Garrison
Davie, Florida

(Photo: EKN)

It was an up and down month of May for Garrison. The down came in Mooresville when contact between he and Enzo Vidmontiene took him out of the USPKS Carolina GP main event. On the flip side, he was able to put away the demons that haunted him at MCC in Ohio, nearly pulling off victory at the SpringNationals to avoid the DNF streak that he was on. The SKUSA Pro Tour championship is still up for grabs this July, with the opportunity to claim his first ever in the category to go with his S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto title in 2014.

It has been quite some time since we saw a Canadian in the top-three of the EKN Driver Rankings. Marco DiLeo is the last driver from North of the Border to win the TaG Driver of the Year honor, taking the top spot in the rankings in 2009. Ingratta has stepped away from his open wheel campaign, coming back to karting after racing in the USF Juniors program. He started the season with Rolison Performance Group, earning two wins at the Rotax Winter Trophy program but moved to Speed Concepts Racing for his campaign at the SKUSA Pro Tour. He grabbed a podium at the WinterNationals and currently sits 12th in the championship chase after a tough SpringNationals.

EKN Driver Rankings Calculation Process
The EKN Driver Rankings are calculated using a driver’s best finishes in major North American races. Assembled using events from the previous 12 months from the current date, we use a driver’s best seven finishes in the TaG and Shifterkart categories to determine their overall current point total. With each new release, results posted from more than one year ago are discarded. To deliver our ranking list, we tabulate the results of all the national programs and selected regional programs. We have also included the results for the major one-off events such as the SKUSA SuperNationals, the Rock Island Grand Prix, and other special races.

Each race is initially weighted based on the prestige and history of the event or series with a score of ten (10) being the highest attainable base ranking. For 2024, the SKUSA SuperNationals will receive a score of 10 in its initial weighting in the TaG and Shifterkart categories. A base ranking of 9.5 is awarded to special events of ROK Vegas, US Trophy Final, Rock Island Grand Prix, and IAME Grand National Championship. The core of the schedule featuring SKUSA Pro Tour, SKUSA Winter Series, United States Pro Kart Series, Florida Winter Tour, and Challenge of the Americas begin with a base ranking of 9. Other programs such as ProKart Challenge, Stars Championship Series, ROK Sonoma and others given a base ranking of either 8.5 or 8.0.

The EKN staff reserves the right to adjust the rankings of each event throughout the year. A minimum entry total for any event to be considered for the Driver Rankings program is five (5). If an event does not have at least five (5) drivers starting the race, those results will not be tabulated toward the Driver Rankings.

Added to these initial rankings are two variables that help confirm the true importance of an event to the ranking process – field size and field strength. A percentage of one weighting point is added for the size of the field, while the number of existing top-50 drivers entered offers another full point or fraction of a point. The sum of these numbers becomes the overall ranking for any race.

Following a race, drivers receive points based on their finishing positions with 100 points earned for a win. Each subsequent position drops by one point with 99 points given to the second-place driver and so on throughout the field. These points are then multiplied by the overall ranking to produce a driver’s final point total from each event. Using a driver’s best seven races, we calculate each driver’s overall score and subsequent ranking.
