The Gulf Coast Kartways hosted the Greater Houston Race Series event over the May 17-18 weekend. The two-day event was Round Five and Round Six, with two separate rounds of racing taking place at the Katy, Texas facility – just south of Houston.

An incident involving Mini Swift racer Adrian Vargas occurred during practice on Sunday, May 18. He was taken to the ER and subsequently air lifted to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Houston. Adrian sustained multiple injuries, including multiple broken bones, including fractures to ribs and back area along with lung issues that put him into the Intensive Care Unit.

Thankfully, Adrian is moving in the right direction. A post on social media from Adrian’s parents including a photo of Adrian giving the thumbs up, as they hope to have him discharged from the ICU and put into the regular room as recovery continues.

As always, the karting community rallies around those in need. A GoFundMe has been established to help support the Vargas family. We ask that you keep Adrian, along with this parents, sister Nayeli and the rest of the Vargas family in your thoughts as they navigate the weeks and months ahead in the road to recovery.
