The 2025 season marks the 25th anniversary of the Vintage Karting Association, the largest and oldest organization devoted to the preservation of karting’s history. Members from coast to coast, and a handful from around the world gather throughout the year at iconic kart tracks to show off their historic karts and engines, and to race them too.

“Vintage Karting, and the VKA, are committed to preserving and promoting the equipment and people who made karting the great sport it is today. The VKA has programs for every element of Vintage Karting, from collecting and restoring older karts and engines, to competing for awards in our kart shows at each event, to racing these older machines at some of the best kart tracks in the country,” says VKA President John Copeland. “We are led by a dedicated group of volunteers who put in countless hours to make sure our members can enjoy a safe, exciting, and fun experience with their vintage machines.”

Vintage karters regularly meet, either in person or on the VKA Website (vkakarting.com) or Facebook (Vintage Karting Association) to track down hard-to-find parts, show off their projects, and to hit the track with their treasured karts.

The VKA provides a set of “Guidelines” that define what karts, engines, tires, etc. are eligible for each of its 20 classes, from the Historic Class for karts from the earliest days of karting, to the Twin-Engine Opens, and everything in between. Karts are also divided by age and frame configuration (rear-engine vs. sidewinder). Engines, clutches, and other accessories are limited to those that are “period correct”. Safety equipment is required to be up to current standards.

“The goal here is to provide a safe, fun environment for our members to enjoy all the excitement that fueled karting’s explosive growth. It provides a great alternative for folks who want to get involved, or stay involved, in karting but don’t want to deal with the high-intensity, big-money world of modern karting,” added Copeland. “So, if you used to kart, but don’t anymore, or if you always wanted to do this, but in a fun, low-pressure environment, come join the VKA.
