Young Racer Bergman to Represent Team USA at the FIA Motorsport Games

Josh Bergman

Young American karting star Josh Bergman is set to represent Team USA in the new Karting Mini category at the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games.

The nine-year-old Karter will represent his country in Valencia, Spain, from October 23 to 27, for the third running of the FIA Motorsport Games.

Staged every two years, the games will feature 27 different categories—a massive expansion from the 16 that were contested in Marseille, France, two years ago.

Karting, single-seaters, touring cars, GT, slalom, off-road, drifting, rally, and even truck racing are part of the huge international event, which is expected to attract more than 700+ competitors waving their national flags from more than 75 different nations.

Bergman will be the youngest Team USA Representative. Karting Mini is open to one representative from each country from around the world, aged 8-11.

The announcement of Bergman’s selection comes after an impressive start to the 2024 Mini Swift season, with multiple podiums and his stellar performance behind the wheel in Cincinnati recently in the Stars Championship Series. He won both heats and the pre-final, was fastest in the warm-up, and was first across the line in the final (before sadly incurring a post-race penalty). “To get the opportunity to not only race in Europe but to represent your country is an amazing opportunity, and I’m so proud to be selected,” Bergman said.

“I’ll be racing against young drivers from all over the world, and we will all have our sights set on taking home a gold medal as the Karting Mini champion.

“I’ll be working hard to make sure I am as best prepared as I can be. The karting event will be very much an even playing field with a completely new track layout and everyone using exactly the same equipment.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent Team USA and thankful for the support of everyone who has made this journey possible, especially my supporters, sponsors, coaches, and family.”

The karting competitions—which also include karting sprint junior, karting sprint senior, and endurance karting—will take place on a unique configuration of the Aspar Circuit, located just 25km away from Valencia. Track action begins on Friday, October 25, and concludes on Sunday, October 27.

Karting Mini is for drivers aged between eight (who reach their ninth birthday during the year) and eleven with a National Karting Licence. As such, the category will host the youngest competitors of the FIA Motorsport Games.

The 2024 FIA Motorsport Games opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 24, at the architecturally spectacular City of Arts and Sciences in downtown Valencia. Drivers will have four 15-minute practice sessions ahead of Qualifying and three 10km Qualifying Heats. The medal winners will ultimately be decided by the 15km Final.
