Ignite Grand Prix Cup presented by Skip Barber Racing School Established
Margay Racing and Ignite Karting are proud to introduce a new street racing championship called the Ignite Grand Prix Cup presented by Skip Barber Racing School. This points championship will incorporate existing street racing events including the Elkhart Grand Prix (August 2-3) and Rock Island Grand Prix (August 31-September 1), as well as the returning and upcoming Quincy Grand Prix (June 8-9).
As the presenting partner of the Ignite Grand Prix Cup, the Skip Barber Racing School will award the Ignite Senior champion a one-day formula car school, which is valued at $4,000.
“We’re excited to launch the Ignite GP Cup and hope to help rejuvenate the street racing scene,” Margay Racing owner Keith Freber said. “Each of these events have such a deep & rich history, and it’s special to tie all three together into one points championship.”
This championship format applies to Ignite classes that will be present at all three events, which are Ignite Senior (Age 15+) & Masters (Age 35+). The current Formula 1 points structure will be used, so the top 10 drivers in each feature race will score points, and there will be zero drop races. From 1st to 10th, the points are distributed as: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.
The opening round of the Ignite Grand Prix Cup takes place at the Quincy Grand Prix on June 8-9.
