It was the penultimate round of the ROK Sonoma Presented by Titanium Sports Nutrition and it was another battle for top honors by some of North America’s best kart racers. Taking on the kart facility at the Sonoma Raceway yet again, tight battles and close finishes were the highlights of the weekend as competitors battled tooth and nail for every remaining championship point.

“It is always a bittersweet time of the year,” expressed ROK Sonoma Promoter, Steve Cameron. “We are winding the season down, but I am happy that we will be able to crow champions after our next event. These teams and competitors work hard all year, and they deserve to be rewarded.”

With two race days left, both on the same weekend, it will be important for drivers to finish strong at the final event in the 2022 ROK Sonoma Presented by Titanium Sports Nutrition season over the October 15 – 16 race weekend.

125cc Shifter LTD presented by Altwell

It was Travels Bowles in qualifying that was at the top of the charts, but Pat Beckly closed the day with another win. Showing his pace to stretch away once again to an insurmountable gap, Beckly added to his results resume and championship point total. Jim Kidd ran alone in second to stand on the podium as Ori Della Penna held off the advances of the pole position winner Bowles for the final step on the podium. Bowels would retain the fourth position with Trevor Geter in P5.

Junior & Master 100cc

Christian Cameron looked like he was the driver to beat in Junior 100cc qualifying on pole, but as he is not racing for the Championship he choose to start at the back of each race. Taking home the main event win was Max Altman as he secured the fastest lap of the race and the victory in dominating fashion. Anthony White was able to hold onto the second position and celebrate on the podium ahead of Casey Moyer in third. Yana Kapoor, who missed the podium by just a few kart lengths was classified fourth while Valen Venkatesh was fifth.

It was David Kao that showed speed in qualifying, but it was Andrew Wait that earned himself the last laugh and the win the Master 100cc ranks. Despite not scoring the fastest lap, Wait held off Scott Formanek for the win as Formanek showed great pace with the fast lap honors. Dan Rivera celebrated on the podium with Wait and Formanek as he was narrowly able to hold off the advances of Michael Ting and David Kao who finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Mini & Micro ROK presented by SSI Racing

It was a tight battle in the Mini ROK final, but Gabby Guidera hung on to add a race win to her pole position from earlier in the day. It was a Guidera one-two finish as they romped to a two-second gap over the third-place competitor of Mateo Calderon. While the Guidera’s celebrated as a family, Calderon joined them on the podium with Erik Doan in fourth and Henry Fogarty fifth. On the Micro ROK side of the program, it was Jimmy Fogarty that grabbed the win ahead of Kylie Johnson.

Senior 100cc presented by OPI Builders

Multi-time national competition winner Chase Hand showed up to compete in the Senior 100cc class and immediately made his presence felt with the pole position in qualifying. Once wheel-to-wheel racing resumed, it was the familiar name of Eddie Shimmon that found his pace and climbed to the top of the charts to take the day’s win. Shimmon led Hand and Roman Madrigal to podium results as the front three were separated by less than two seconds on the track. Christopher Martin and Michael Michoff made it five drivers crossing the stripe within 2.7 seconds in a tight battle for the checkered flag.

Pro ROK Shifter & Master ROK Shifter presented by Altwell

Brian Keck converted his Pro ROK Shifter pole position into the main event victory as well as the honor of the fastest race lap at 50.622. Keck dominated the day to take the win ahead of Dustin Salaverria and Kevin woods who joined him on the podium. Ryan Martin was the best of the rest in the fourth position outpacing Ethan Booher who was able to cross the one in fifth

Neil Joseph grabbed himself the Master ROK Shifter pole position award but only completed eight laps in the main event opening the door for Patrick O’Neil. O’Neil earned himself the win over the twenty-lap main event as he was joined on the podium by Alan Morte and Jeff Mills in second and third respectively.

Senior ROK & Master ROK

In the combined Senior ROK and Master ROK class it was Colin McGrath that would score the overall win and Senior victory as he drove to the checkered flag and the top step of the podium over Torsten Olsen. In the Master ROK side of the program, it was Hunter Hagenbuch that was the man of the hour earning himself a trip to the podium by beat Dan Jones by nearly 6.5 seconds on track. Fred Clark and David Palic finished third and fourth respectively.

Rounds #8 and #9 in the 2022 ROK Sonoma Powered by Titanium Sports Nutrition will be over the October 15 – 16 weekend.
