The fifth season for the Cup Karts North America Canada Division opened over the June 26-28 weekend, visiting the Brechin Motorsport Park for the second straight season. The Ramara, Ontario facility welcomed over 130 entries over the eight categories competing the first two rounds of the 2026 championship program. The season began back in May at the inaugural CKNA Canadian 4-Cycle Nationals from Mont-Tremblant, Quebec for the special one-off event, helping to build the momentum for the start of this season.

“Cup Karts Canada successfully completed the first event of the 2026 Canada Division championship at Brechin Motorsport Park, marking another important milestone in the continued growth of grassroots four-cycle karting across Canada,” said Gerald Caseley, Founder of Cup Karts Canada. “From the moment the green flag dropped, the weekend showcased exactly what Cup Karts Canada was built to achieve: competitive racing, outstanding sportsmanship, and a welcoming atmosphere for racers and their families. Our vision has never been simply to organize races. We wanted to build a community where competitors race hard, respect one another, and enjoy spending time together. This weekend confirmed we’re on the right path. Congratulations to all race winners and to every competitor who participated in making Round 1 a memorable weekend.”

Cup Karts Canada extends its sincere appreciation to every driver, family, mechanic, official, technical inspector, corner worker, timing and scoring official, registration volunteer, recovery crew member, announcer, photographer, sponsor and partner who contributed to making the event a success. Special thanks also go to the entire team at Brechin Motorsport Park for their hospitality and support throughout the weekend. While every event provides opportunities to improve, the organization leaves Brechin encouraged by the quality of racing and the respect displayed both on and off the track.

The largest category of the weekend was Senior Light at 40 drivers. Three different drivers led the way on the opening day with Declan Black securing fast time of 44.103 to earn the RLV Fastest Qualifier award. After that, it was second quickest and last year’s Junior champion Hudson Jack Urlin and P5 qualifier Sebastian Day that showed the way. Both Day and Urlin won both their heat races to secure the front row starting spots for the main event. Day was able to use the pole position to go wire-to-wire in the 14-lap Feature, holding off Urlin at the line by 68 thousandths. Nicholas Capilongo was a close third as Malex Richard beat out Black for the fourth spot. Sunday saw four different drivers at the front of the field. Capilongo came away with the RLV Fastest Qualifier award for Round Two with a time of 44.453 but it was CKNA Canadian 4-Cycle Nationals winner Major Makovskis and Urlin who took the heat wins after the class was split up into two groups. Urlin was shuffled back early as Makovskis led the first eight laps. Day took over the point and led until Black grabbed the position with two laps remaining. Black held on over the final two circuits to claim the victory by just over a tenth ahead of Makovskis and Day. Tyler Desrosiers was fourth with Urlin placing fifth while recording fast lap of the race.

The Senior Medium category had 20 drivers competing, featuring two sweeps over the two rounds of racing. 2025 Junior champion Hudson Jack Urlin was able to lead the way over Round One. After earning the RLV Fastest Qualifier award with a lap of 44.705, led every lap of Heat One and held off John D Wade for the win in Heat Two. The two were able to breakaway, led by Urlin as he went green-to-checkered over the 14 laps for the victory. Wade settled for second with Zach Boam winning the battle for third over Nicholas Capilongo and Max Franceschelli. Wade took over for Round Two, securing the RLV Fastest Qualifier award with a 44.964 lap time. Wade led all 12 laps of the heat race before showing the way in the 15-lap Feature for the victory. Boam improved to second with Franceschelli up to third with fast lap of the race. Urlin was fourth with Capilongo rounding out the top five.

Two drivers led the way for Senior Heavy on the weekend. Gregory Scollard earned the RLV Fastest Qualifier award in qualifying for Round One, clearing the field by over three tenths. He went on to win both heat races before a three driver fight took place in the Feature. Both Carson Bartlett and Noah Van Straten challenged Scollard for the lead. Van Straten took the lead on lap 12 and showed the way for the remainder of the main event for the victory. Bartlett was second with Scollard in third. Quinn Detlor and Eric Bos rounded out the top five. Van Straten continued the momentum on Sunday with the RLV Fastest Qualifier award in qualifying. Scollard came away with the heat race win and led all 16 laps of the Feature for the victory. Van Straten held off Bartlett for second with Bos fourth and Andrew Seggie in fifth.

Multiple drivers were in the hunt throughout the weekend in the 20-driver Junior division. Jamie Stewien was able to earn the RLV Fastest Qualifier award with a lap of 45.163 while Cole Campin and Blake Fregeau won the heat races as the order was shuffled in both motos. Fregeau jumped to the lead to begin the 14-lap main event. By lap eight, Stewien took over the point and would lead the rest of the distance to secure the victory. Fregeau was only 87 thousandths off at the line with the rest of the top five close, including Kegan Irwin third, Campin fourth and Aiden Kishun fifth. Stewien continued the momentum over into Sunday with RLV Fastest Qualifier award. He led 11 of the 12 laps in the heat race, dropping to third behind Irwin and Campin before reclaiming the top spot prior to the white flag. Stewien continued leading into the Feature, pacing the field the first eight laps until Irwin once again went to the lead. He led four laps until Stewien returned to the point. It was for only one lap as Campin went from third to first at the white flag and held on through the final lap for the victory. Irwin settled for second with Alessandro Cuddemi recorded fast lap of the race to finish on the podium in third ahead of Noah Anderson and Kishun, pushing Stewien back to sixth.

The opening round at Brechin welcomed the new W Class. The new category focused on female drivers 14 years and older following Senior class rules, which will be a championship division for 2026. A total of six drivers took part with a new weekend sweep for Sloan Sterling. She recorded the RLV Fastest Qualifier award by over two tenths, going on to win both heat races and the Feature for the inaugural victory. Maika Gendron was second with Alice Blanchard recording fast lap of the race in third. Blanchard broke up the perfect weekend for Sterling, earning the RLV Fastest Qualifier award. Sterling was back in fourth in the session but drove up to win the heat race. Sterling led all 15 laps of the Feature to claim a second victory on the weekend. Blanchard was second with Gendron in third.

The only sweep of the weekend came in the Legends where two-time defending champion Eli Yanko led the way for both rounds of racing. Yanko secured the RLV Fastest Qualifier award by over two tenths in Round One action before leading both heat races. Leading all 14 laps of the Feature, Yanko dominated over the 11-driver field for a six-second victory. Jamie McArthur was runner-up with Stephen Goebel on the podium in third over Simon Pepin and Steve Walker. Yanko continued on Sunday with RLV Fastest Qualifier award and led all 12 laps of the heat race. He then went on to go wire-to-wire in the 15-lap Feature as Goebel was a close runner-up, earning fast lap of the race. MacArthur was third ahead of Walker and Mike Forget.

Defending Masters champion Eric Lessard was able to leave the weekend with two victories. It was former champion Mathieu Demers was able to earn the RLV Fastest Qualifier award with lap time of 45.520, edging out Lessard by 65 thousandths. Lessard came through for the win in both heat races and nearly led the entire 14-lap Feature. Demers led for one lap but it was Lessard leading the final 10 laps for the victory. Corey Walsh was able to slip by Demers for the second spot. Kevin McCathie recorded fast lap of the race in fourth while Andrew Grinyer rounded out the top five. Lessard came out of the Sunday qualifying session with RLV Fastest Qualifier award by nearly three tenths over Walsh. In the heat race, Walsh was able to come out with the win over Lessard. Walsh jumped out to the lead, showing the way for seven laps until Lessard went to the point. Lessard would lead the rest of the distance for a second victory on the weekend. Walsh and Demers ended up on the podium ahead of Alexandre Dallaire and Todd Musker.

Multiple drivers were in the hunt on the weekend in Cadet. Ethan Smith cleared the 11-driver field to claim the Round One RLV Fastest Qualifier award. Smith held off Nathan Stockwell for the opening heat race win while Cayson Misener came through for the win in the second heat over Smith, who had fast lap of the race. Misener led the first three laps until shuffled back to third and eventually retired on lap six. Smith and Stockwell battled for the lead. On the final lap, Smith had his race end short of the checkered flag as Stockwell secured the victory. Chase Robar crossed the line in second ahead of Noah Kishun. Ethan Grinyer and Pharaoh Voros rounded out the top five. Stockwell continued into Sunday with the RLV Fastest Qualifier award for Round Two. Ethan Smith was third in the order, driving up to the win in the heat race over Stockwell. Both drivers and Misener were in the hunt over the 15-lap Feature. All three led over the first half of the race until Stockwell secured the top spot by lap eight. He led the rest of the way to secure a second victory of the weekend, beating out Misener by over seven tenths. Smith joined them on the podium with Robar fourth and Voros in fifth.

The second event of the Cup Karts North America Canada Division is slated for the July 24-26 returning to the Lombardy Motorsports Park in Lombardy, Ontario. Registration is currently open for the midway point of the 2026 championship program.
