Former Superkarts! USA Pro Tour champion Kyle Wick will make his European debut next month as he is set to compete at the upcoming FIA Karting European Championship event, which is scheduled for July 2-5 at the Circuito Internazionale Napoli in Italy. This event marks the first time the Washington driver will compete on the international stage, and it’s also the first event for the USA-based GFC Karting brand to compete in the KZ2 category in FIA competition.
Wick is already in Europe with GFC Team Manager Sonny Cervelli to participate this weekend at the Italian ACI Karting Championship event at the Sarno, Italy facility. This event will feature over 350 drivers, including 73 in the KZ2 category. The field will be a mixture of KZ, KZ2 and KZ2 Masters drivers, including 2026 SKUSA Winter Series champion Jay Urwin from New Zealand and Matheus Morgatto from Brazil, the current championship leader at the SKUSA Pro Tour.
Wick told EKN, “I am excited to make my first start in Europe. While this weekend is on the Vega White tires instead of the LeCont brand we will use at the FIA event, I will be able to learn the track and get to know the people surrounding the team along with those who I will be competing against. The main focus is to gain experience to prepare for the World Cup.”
The event that Wick is preparing for is on September 17-20, set for Le Mans Karting International in Le Mans, France, which will host the FIA Karting KZ World Championship along with the KZ2 World Cup and KZ2 Masters World Cup.
This debut for Gary Carlton’s brand comes about a year and a half after GFC Karting announced it had earned their CIK-FIA homologation certification for the 2025-2027 period.
GFC Karting has expanded its dealer network across the globe since then, including Advanced Karting in Costa Rica and WK Motorsports in Thailand. GFC has added another continent to its list with the addition of WORR Motorsport in South Africa.
Gary Carlton, owner of GFC Karting, told EKN that they will be working closely with WORR Motorsport to try to expand the GFC market in Africa, along with bringing drivers from that region of the world to driver here in the United States. Add in Canada, Slovakia and Mexico, GFC brand is available now in seven different countries.
