Musser Technical Bringing Experience-Centric Products to the Sport

Initial products focused on AiM Sports SmartyCam systems

When you’re a racer or a mechanic, you are always interacting with your equipment, leveraging its spectrum of adjustability and user friendliness. If you have an engineering mind, you may at find times find yourself wishing a component could do more or be easier to use. You may want to try to improve on a product or ‘build a better mousetrap’. Over the years, this concept has always driven product development and it’s not surprising to see ex-racers become product designers, especially when engineering and development is a core skill set. This is certainly the case for Jordon Musser, the four-time Rotax Max Challenge national champion and five-time Superkarts! USA Pro Tour title winner. Through racing and coaching Musser has pushed his equipment to the limit and now is releasing products designed with the racer in mind through his technical consulting firm, Musser Technical.

Musser Technical Clamp-On Camera Mount

Over the past 12 years, away from karting, Jordan’s also been busy with contract work in varying areas of engineering, motorsports, and executive leadership. This new venue is a simple extension of his work, focusing on the sport he loves. You know Musser’s name from 20+ years of winning big races and national championships, but you’re also going to start seeing it at tracks with the rollout of Musstech Pro Karting products this year, all under the Musser Technical banner.

This first product line released by Musstech is focused on support for the Aim Sports SmartyCam systems.

“As a whole, the current karting camera systems are adaptations from other sports, even the SmartyCam, which comes from the car world,” Musser told EKN.  “So, everything from the wiring to the mounting are not karting specific. This became very apparent when I started coaching more drivers and I had to bring loaner cameras and we would spend nearly as much time setting up the system as driving the kart. My goal with Musstech Pro Karting products is to fill that gap.”

Musser Technical Battery Mount for SmartyCam

Jordon’s designed, built, and tested the products himself, filling his perceived need for such a solution. Musstech offers three major categories of products for the SmartyCam platform – a bespoke camera mount, a wire harness, along with a battery and mount system. The Musstech camera mount comes in both weld-on or clamp-on mount styles, and both are SKUSA approved. The wire harness has an integrated push button power-off and does not require a data hub. The power connector for the battery is integrated, which cleans up the wiring system. It also eliminates the camera from draining the dash battery. To complete the package, Jordon has sourced a top-quality powersports battery and mount, all housed in a metal cage that bolts to the back of your seat out of the way. It weighs under one pound and will power the camera for over 2.5 hours of recording. A fast charger for the battery is now also available.

Musser launched the operation in the late summer and sold out of his entire stock only a few days into the SKUSA SuperNationals 28 while he was running his own program in Master Shifter with PSL Karting. Now that he’s back home from Las Vegas with a runner-up finish on SuperSunday in his pocket, Musser has told EKN that he has product in stock for anyone who did not get a chance to purchase the bundle at the SuperNats.
