People always ask, ‘What is the state of karting in the USA?’ Judging by the numbers we are experiencing across all the different levels and now the early registration totals for Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 28, the sport of karting is at an all-time high.

In less than 72 hours of registration opening on July 31, the entry total for this year’s event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway has surpassed the 500-mark.

It was a wild period in the first four days for registration to SKUSA SuperNationals 28. The total surpassed the 250-mark in only four hours, eclipsing the 300 total within 12 hours as KA100 Senior became the first class to surpass 44, expanding to 88 entries. On August 1, X30 Junior sold out with Pro X30 and KA100 Junior opening to 88 entries.

As of Monday, August 4, the total has exceeded 500 entries. Here is a breakdown of the current numbers per category from Superkarts! USA.

KA100 Senior has sold out at 88. It will not be expanded any further.

KA100 Junior and Pro X30 have opened to 88 and both are on the way to selling out.

X30 Junior and Pro Shifter are sold out at 44 and being evaluated for expansion to 88.

KA100 Master is sold out at 44 and will not be expanded.

Mini Swift is sold out at 52 and will not be expanded.

Micro Swift is on the brink of selling out at 44 and will not be expanded.

Master Shifter is over half full and will surely sell out at 44 and not be expanded.

Those competitors who have not been able to register or are on the waitlist already for their respective category, SKUSA has created a Waitlist FAQ regarding the procedure moving forward.

SKUSA SuperNationals 27 welcomed 550 entries over the nine categories. KA100 Senior, KA100 Junior, Pro X30 and Pro Shifter were expanded to welcome 88 entries. Pro Shifter was expanded, however, only reached 68 drivers. The same for Pro X30, welcoming 69 drivers. Both KA divisions reached the 88 entry mark. All other categories sold out to make it the third largest SuperNationals ever.

The record for entries at the SKUSA SuperNationals was set in 2013 at the Rio Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, featuring 12 classes. The last edition at the Rio in 2022 – SuperNationals 25 – was the second highest at 586, hosting 10 divisions that year.

Looking ahead to November 12-16 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the schedule could be adjusted from the last two editions with the expansion of a fifth or sixth class to 88 entries. The class groupings for SKUSA SuperNationals 28 are slated to be the same as in 2024.

Morning Group: KA100 Junior, KA100 Senior, Master Shifter, Micro Swift

Afternoon Group: Mini Swift, X30 Junior, KA100 Master, Pro X30, Pro Shifter

Superkarts! USA is working on developing this year’s track and paddock for SuperNationals 28. The same parking lot area at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be utilized, with tweaks and adjustments looking to be made factoring in feedback from competitors, teams, and spectators to make it an enjoyable and exciting week for all in Vegas once again.

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino returns as the host hotel for the SKUSA SuperNationals 28. A longtime partner with Superkarts! USA, the exclusive room block has been established for the time period of November 6-22, featuring amazing rates to three different levels of rooms – which includes free parking. The room block is available until Wednesday, October 18.

In addition to the numbers making history, competitors are targeting the record books every year at the SKUSA SuperNationals. In 2024, Billy Musgrave added a record-setting fifth SKUSA SuperNationals victory to his resume. Coming off his first career SKUSA Pro Tour championship in Pro Shifter, the godfather of the Factory Karts brand is expected to defend his Master Shifter victory from 2024 while competing in Pro Shifter with the coveted SKUSA #1 plate. British driver Joe Turney became the first driver to win both Pro X30 and KA100 Senior division at the same SuperNationals. The Kart Republic driver is expected to return in an effort to defend those wins in Las Vegas in 2025. Sebastian Garzon became the third different driver to win both Junior categories in the same SuperNationals. The Colombian has graduated to the USF Juniors program and the Senior ranks in karting, leaving open a slot for a new driver to take the reigns at the SuperNationals in the Junior categories. Romanian driver Daniel Visale made history, becoming the 19th different winner in the headline shifterkart category at the SuperNationals. He is expected to return in Vegas to defend his title in Pro Shifter.
