EKN Trackside: 2025 Challenge of the Americas – Burt Brothers Motorpark – Preview

First visit to Utah facility wraps up 18th championship season

The 2025 Challenge of the Americas is set to come to a close over the June 13-15 weekend, visiting the Burt Brothers Motorpark. It will be the first time in the 18-year history of The Challenge that it will visit the Grantsville, Utah facility, hosting Round Seven and Round Eight. In addition to welcoming the Shinko Racing Kart Tires, the series finale marks the first time a fourth event will be counted toward the Challenge championship standings where this year’s title winners are set to be crowned in Utah.

The Burt Brothers Motorpark in Grantsville, Utah opened in 2006, then known as the Miller Motorsports Park. It changed its name to Utah Motorsports Campus later on, and welcomed the new BBM branding at the start of 2025. The 1-mile Alan Wilson-designed course features multiple layouts, with the standard ‘Star-Trek’ circuit in the clockwise direction the selection for the Challenge weekend. Round Seven will make up the action on Saturday with the finale Round Eight action on Sunday, including a warm-up, Qualifying, Prefinal and Final each day.

eKartingNews.com is proud to continue with the 14th season of Trackside Live program for Challenge of the Americas. EKN’s own Rob Howden will be calling the action all weekend from Burt Brothers Motorpark. Those unable to attend can listen in to the live broadcast. Nearly 30 drivers are set to battle in the Forward Direction Motorsports 100cc Senior category on the weekend. Championship leader Keagan Kaminski (FW / GFC) is taking his two wins on the year into Utah, holding a 59-point advantage over Johnie Stamps (FW / GFC), who only has two podium results. Stephen Eisert (SpeedSense / Exprit) sits third in the championship standings, however, will not be in Utah. This moves Chase Hand (GFC Karting) and Flavio Aquini (Italcorse Americas) into the fight for the third step on the championship podium. A total of six drivers from Utah will be in the field, including Utah Karting Championship point leader Tevin Robbins (Tony Kart), double race winner Collin Ruess (SpeedSense / Kosmic) and race winner Jakob Elkins (SpeedSense / Gillard).

The championship in the Nash Motorsportz 100cc Junior division will see a shakeup at the top before the action begins. Current championship leader Jackson Gibson (NRC / Gillard) will not be in Utah due to a conflict with a European event he will be competing at. This promotes two-time race winner Erik Doan (Nash / EOS) to the top of the championship chase, leading by over 100 points ahead of Sergei Karamseili (Axis / Gillard) and Xander Malatesta (Ruthless / Exprit) with Luca Popescu (FW / GFC) on the outside looking in. Payton Anderson (Nash / Kosmic) is among the two drivers from Utah, and the podium finisher from K1 is primed for another trip to the steps on the weekend.

The win streak by Michael Avansino (RWR / CRG) in the SwedeTech Racing Engines Shifter Senior will come to an end in Utah. Avansino, who swept the first six rounds of the championship, is not competing in the final two rounds after securing the provisional title. The field at Burt Brothers Motorpark will feature four drivers, three from Utah. Evan Concepcio (Scuderia Littel / GFC) continues his run at California driver Anthony Freese (WCM / Birelart) for the second spot in the championship chase. Nolan Gagnon (Nash / Italkart) and Ayrton Littel (Scuderia Littel / GFC) return to the Challenge after missing the last round.

The Neliton Race Concepts Shifter Masters will welcome a new winner on the weekend. Four-time winner Joe Ruch (Shiftrz / Maranello) will not be in Utah along with Sonoma winners Patrick O’Neill (RWR / CRG) and Michael Guasch (Shiftrz / Maranello). Third place in the championship Michael Faker (GFC Karting) and Chris Muecke (Italcorse Americas) are the only two entries heading into the weekend.

Scott Falcone (PW / Pantano) enters Utah as the championship leader in the Ruthless Karting 100cc Masters category. He holds a 150-point advantage over Luke Tracy (VemmeKart) with Christopher Mann (Ruthless / Exprit) in third after missing Tucson while Matthew Meech (PW / Tony Kart) and Bruce Norman (Scuderia Littel / GFC) cap off the top five in the standings. Falcone, Mann and Norman are the only pre-entries with anticipation of more at track registration for the category on the weekend.

The Karting Collective 60cc Cadet class has nine drivers set to battle with the top four heading to Utah. Luis Martinez (Croc Promotion) has three wins over the six rounds and leads the standings by 35 points over Lucas Tarango (Ruthless / Nitro Kart). Hudson Hidalgo (Team KartNick / Parolin) is only 68 back in third while Round One winner Nathan Ramirez (Team KartNick / Parolin) is just over 100 points out of the lead before factoring in the drops. Chase Riddering is fifth, but not on the entry list for Utah. Three of the drivers are local with Forrest Blair (Scuderia Littel / GFC), Brody Forbes (Birelart), and Natalie Priestley (Nash / LN Racing Kart).

New for the Utah event is the Challenge Briggs 206 Shootout, welcoming racers from all over the west and mountain region to compete for over a $1,000 in prize money. 14 drivers in total registered, including two Shifter drivers going double duty in Ayrton Littel (GFC) and Anthony Freese (Birelart). Five are from Utah, including Utah Karting Championship point leader Collin Ruess (Kosmic) – who is also competing in the Senior 100cc class. Minnesota, Wyoming, Idaho, California and Washington states are all represented in the category.
