The halfway point is here, now into the sixth month of the season with the summer months now upon us. The second release of the standings for the 2025 eKartingNews.com Shifterkart Driver Rankings presented by Stilo USA is available. Just over 150 drivers have competed in events over the last 12 months, dating back to June 2024, which still includes the results from the 2024 SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals. Only seven driver remained in the same position from the April standings, including the top two – Brazilian Matheus Morgatto and USA pilot Billy Musgrave.

Morgatto (PSL Karting / Birelart) was able to improve his score from April thanks to P5 at this year’s SpringNationals, while keeping last year’s win at MCC with the event held over Father’s Day weekend in 2024. He also picked up a win at the Stars Championship Series, only his second on the year including the SKUSA Winter Series finale. Musgrave (Factory Karts) has two wins at the regional level over the last month (PKC / TSRS) while placing a disappointing eighth at the SKUSA SpringNationals. He did improve his score by 27 points, now trailing Morgatto by 55 points. Kyle Wick (GFC Karting), coming off his first podium of 2025, jumped up to the third spot in the standings. An improvement of 109 points moved him from fourth to third.

The advancement of Wick dropped AJ Myers (Magik Kart USA) out of the top three and into fourth. Despite the drop in position, Myers did improve his score slightly by 15 points. Myers was third at the Stars Championship Series opener and sixth at the SpringNationals after starting on the front row for the main event. Holding onto the fifth position is California driver Michael Avansino (Ron White Racing / CRG). The provisional Challenge of the Americas champion picked up two more wins in Sonoma, however, with the small kart count the races did not count toward the EKN Driver Rankings. He ran inside the top-10 all weekend at the SpringNationals but recorded a DNF in the main event.

Up two spots from eighth to sixth is Jacob Gulick (GFC Karting). Like his GFC teammate, Gulick was able to improve on his WinterNationals performance at SpringNationals. Despite a DNF in one of the heat races, the Washington driver drove up to seventh place finish at MCC. His improvement dropped Gabin Bayliff (TKG Birelart USA) and Justin White (Maranello USA) each a position. Bayliff, now in the seventh position, suffered a DNF at the SpringNationals to put his championship hopes down after the victory at the WinterNationals. His point total remained unchanged due to the results at MCC. White was able to improve his score, just not enough to leap over Bayliff in the standings. The ninth-place result at the SpringNationals is the best result over the four SKUSA Pro Tour races counted toward the EKN Driver Rankings this month for White.

Current SKUSA Pro Tour championship leader Jay Urwin (PSL Karting / Birelart) holds the ninth spot in this month’s standings. Two runner-up results, including the Stars Championship Series and SpringNationals, advanced him one spot up to ninth in the EKN Driver Rankings. His three starts of 2025 in the USA are top-four finishes, with room to improve his score over the next six months. Completing the top-10 EKN Driver Rankings for June is Hunter Pickett (GFC Karting). Up two spots to get back into 10th, Pickett took advantage of Ian Quinn (PSL Karting / Birelart) falling out of the top-10. Pickett has two DNFs to start the SKUSA Pro Tour season, and will need strong results the rest of the season to remain among the top drivers in the standings.

On the Move for the month of June is Aden Rudolph (Kart CRG USA). Making his Pro Shifter debut this year, Rudolph has two events with the SKUSA Pro Tour and the Texas Sprint Racing Series. He’s jumped into the top-50 now, sitting 43rd with at least five more races on his schedule for 2025 toward the EKN Driver Rankings. A win at the TSRS opener goes with an eighth place result in his SKUSA Pro Tour debut at Speedsportz. The 2025 SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals winner Josh Conquer (Maranello USA) is also one to watch climb the order. The Canadian only has five events over the last 12 months, including the two SKUSA Pro Tour events from last year and a third place at MCC for Stars in 2024. His only two races of 2025 include a ninth at the WinterNationals with the victory at MCC in May. He will need more events on his schedule outside the SKUSA Pro Tour to move up the standings.

The reign of Morgatto over the EKN Driver Rankings could be coming to an end. The position of the SpringNationals 2024 in mid-June keeps that victory on the record for the PSL Karting / Birelart driver, who has only two wins this year compared to seven at this time last year. Two top-five results over the SKUSA Pro Tour and the win at the Stars Championship Series opener keeps him among the top drivers over the 2025, however, losing points from 2024 could drop him down the order come July release of the standings.

Shifterkart #2 – Billy Musgrave

There is no doubting the talent of Musgrave, a now five-time Superkarts! USA SuperNationals winner after taking the Master Shifter title in 2024. He continues to put himself at the front of the Pro Shifter field at 33 years old. A possible podium finish slipped from his grasp at the SpringNationals in Ohio, dropping down to eighth in the order after showing pace to challenge for the victory. One achievement still drives the Factory Karts driver – claiming his first SKUSA Pro Tour championship. He now finds himself 19 points out of the top spot heading to the SummerNationals, the event he won in 2024.

Shifterkart #3 – Kyle Wick
Auburn, Washington

The former SKUSA Pro Tour champion made improvement from March to May. The weekend speed was missing from Wick and the GFC Karting crew in Texas, despite Wick battle back in the Final to 10th. At MCC for the SpringNationals, all the GFC drivers had better pace, including Wick who fought his way up to the podium for his first trip to the steps in 2025. Because of the poor start, he has a longshot in the SKUSA Pro Tour title chase, however, can make solid strides with a big second half in the EKN Driver Rankings. Wick will need to replace two podium results from last year that will drop once we hit August.

EKN Driver Rankings Calculation Process
The EKN Driver Rankings are calculated using a driver’s best finishes in major North American races. Assembled using events from the previous 12 months from the current date, we use a driver’s best seven finishes in the TaG and Shifterkart categories to determine their overall current point total. With each new release, results posted from more than one year ago are discarded. To deliver our ranking list, we tabulate the results of all the national programs and selected regional programs. We have also included the results for the major one-off events such as the SKUSA SuperNationals, the Rock Island Grand Prix, and other special races.

Each race is initially weighted based on the prestige and history of the event or series with a score of ten (10) being the highest attainable base ranking. For 2024, the SKUSA SuperNationals will receive a score of 10 in its initial weighting in the TaG and Shifterkart categories. A base ranking of 9.5 is awarded to special events of ROK Vegas, US Trophy Final, Rock Island Grand Prix, and IAME Grand National Championship. The core of the schedule featuring SKUSA Pro Tour, SKUSA Winter Series, United States Pro Kart Series, Florida Winter Tour, and Challenge of the Americas begin with a base ranking of 9. Other programs such as ProKart Challenge, Stars Championship Series, ROK Sonoma and others given a base ranking of either 8.5 or 8.0.

The EKN staff reserves the right to adjust the rankings of each event throughout the year. A minimum entry total for any event to be considered for the Driver Rankings program is five (5). If an event does not have at least five (5) drivers starting the race, those results will not be tabulated toward the Driver Rankings.

Added to these initial rankings are two variables that help confirm the true importance of an event to the ranking process – field size and field strength. A percentage of one weighting point is added for the size of the field, while the number of existing top-50 drivers entered offers another full point or fraction of a point. The sum of these numbers becomes the overall ranking for any race.

Following a race, drivers receive points based on their finishing positions with 100 points earned for a win. Each subsequent position drops by one point with 99 points given to the second-place driver and so on throughout the field. These points are then multiplied by the overall ranking to produce a driver’s final point total from each event. Using a driver’s best seven races, we calculate each driver’s overall score and subsequent ranking.
