Stockholm Karting Center

EKN has learned that there is new ownership of the Stockholm Karting Center, the facility that is home to the only regular karting program in the state of Minnesota. Ted Fasching, the owner of KartLift, which is based at SKC, has completed his purchase of the facility from John Miller, who built the track back in 2002.

“This track is the complete package – with a store, showroom, a full service shop, and storage facilities – and over the past few years, we have finally gotten the numbers up to warrant making this kind of investment,” Fasching told EKN. “I have 15 years invested in running this great facility and, with all the long hours and hard work we’ve put in, it made it too hard to walk away. The opportunity that John Miller has presented to my wife and I have made it possible to pull this huge investment off. I really need to credit my wife Lori for allowing me to do something like this, as she is the one who has to put up with the long hours and me not being around very much. She knows racing is in my blood and continues to support me anyway she can. Also, none of this would be possible without Chris Slinden. He has been with me every step of the way and is a very important part of this. His vision and mind are one and the same.”

Fasching has been in the sport for 20 years, first adding karting to his career in drag racing to get his son Connor behind the wheel back in 2005. Ted purchased KartLift from the former owner in 2019 and this new move to acquire Stockholm is certainly a positive development for the sport in Minnesota.

The track is located just 45 minutes west of the ‘twin cities’ of Minneapolis and St Paul and is focused on providing karting for both competitive and recreational racers. In addition to the nine-week, 18-race track series schedule that SKC promotes every year, they run a popular rental kart program. Featuring a 0.65-mile, 14-turn layout that offers multiple configurations, the Stockholm facility is certainly well-equipped with amenities including rental garages with electricity, 50 pit spots with electrical hook-ups, showers, and restrooms with running water.

“The excitement factor is pretty high and we are still seeing interest in new people and families wanting to get into the sport and we are doing our best by putting out a good product,” Fasching continued. “Nothing makes me happier than seeing the little Kid Kart drivers running around the track and enjoying the safe, fun place to be. We have a great group of racers that race with us right now, very fun to be around.”

SKC is also Minnesota’s only full-time kart retailer. Located on site, the store carries a large inventory to manage the needs of local racers both at the track and during the off-season when they’re preparing for a new season. The shop is a dealer for several chassis brands, including Birel ART, Margay, and OTK, while also supporting both the IAME and Briggs engine platforms. It’s a full-service shop that provides everything from assembling new karts, refurbishing old karts, welding, chassis straightening, machining and, of course, they can set you up with a KartLift kart stand if needed.

“Our plans for the track include maintaining the high standards that were set forth 21 years ago,” Fasching added. “We will work to keep evolving with the sport and keep building from the young kids to the grown adults. In the future, I would like to host a regional or national event here. I believe this facility has something to offer racers and I would like them to see what Minnesota has to offer.”

Fasching aims to have the track open in early-April, weather dependant, as always. The track’s racing series is set to begin on the May 11-12 weekend.
