Ricciardo Kart Racing finishes in the top 6 in KZ with Rick Dreezen at the second round of the WSK Super Master Series.

Dreezen started from the tenth row in both Heats, because of a technical problem in qualifying and then fought back in both Saturday races, to finish seventh and ninth. Starting from sixth on the grid in the Prefinal, Dreezen was third on the opening lap, but was then pushed off the track by another driver, losing several places and finishing seventh. Starting from 13th on the grid for the Final, the Belgian climbed up to eighth on the opening lap and then, a few more overtaking moves saw him finish sixth.

“I’m pleased with the pace we demonstrated” said Dreezen after the race. “Given the technical problem we had in qualifying, that was an impressive recovery. Our pace was good enough to have made it to the podium: the Sarno weekend was a confidence booster for the rest of the season.”

Starting from seventh in the OKJ Final, Rasmus Lindh was involved in a collision that dropped him down the order, so that he was unable to make the most of his potential and he ended up ninth. Rasmus was then given a 10” penalty as the front fairing came loose in the collision and this dropped him to 23rd. But he proved competitive in the Prefinal: starting eighth, the Swede climbed all the way up the order to take the chequered flag in fourth place.

“I didn’t achieve my objective, but it was a good weekend” commented Lindh. “In one Heat I had a technical problem, but finished fourth in the Prefinal. In the Final, I was in the top 5 when I was pushed off the track, but I managed to recover to finish ninth, although I got a penalty afterwards. I can’t wait to get back on track again.”

Kiern Jewiss’ weekend was affected by his qualifying session, when track conditions were tricky, because of rain that morning. Starting from the back in the Heats, the Englishman still had a good race pace which saw him make up several places. Starting 26th in the Prefinal, Kiern pulled off several passing move which saw him take the flag in 13th place, having lapped very quickly. Jewiss started the final from 25th and was caught up in a few collisions that slowed his progress and he finished 19th.

“I reckon this was a weekend to forget. Testing went well, but we made a poor decision regarding qualifying and that pushed me down to the back of the pack” commented Jewiss.

Rickard Kaell, Sporting Director: “We were competitive in OKJ with Rasmus Lindh: he had a good qualifying, while in the Heats, a few collisions meant he couldn’t fight for the win. Starting eighth in the Prefinal, he managed to fight his way up to just outside the podium places, but in the Final, a coming together with another driver put him out of contention.

Kiern Jewiss had a difficult qualifying, because of the tricky track conditions and that affected his entire weekend, because when you start from the back, it’s always hard to recover. Making his debut at the Sarno track, Kiern again showed his true potential, confirming that he’s one of the best rookies out there.

We were also competitive in KZ. Rick Dreezen fought back after technical problems in qualifying. Unfortunately, after that we were unable to make the most of the improvements we have made to the DR-32 chassis, because of the accident in the Prefinal. He could have fought for the podium, if he’d started further up the order.

In general, it was a positive weekend in performance terms, despite the rain which meant we didn’t get much dry running. I am optimistic for the last two rounds of the WSK Super Master.”
