Track Repair Gone Bad

Also done overnight was some patchwork down on the main straight in the braking zone. The practice sessions were conducted with barriers narrowing up the straight as they entered turn one, making it only two-kart width wide. Track officials however removed them for qualifying for the morning group, making it a completely different track in that section for the first official session to set the grids for the main event. It was certainly a fix that could have been ignored and now caused some upset drivers in the paddock.

Curb Be Gone

A full day of practice was completed by 6pm Wednesday night, and it wasn’t long before Superkarts! USA officials began to review the esses section of turn 3-4-5. The larger than normal curb made a straighter path for drivers to take turn five entry. The ‘jump’ however was very tough on the equipment, claiming a number of dents tweaks to the karts, along with collecting a number of thrown chains. Overnight, the track crew removed the temporary curbing in turn four, replacing it with barriers. This will force the drivers to keep the wheel turned more to the left on the exit of three, slowing them down some, before entering turn five.
