Great Show at Opening Round of CIK-FIA European KZ/KZ2 Championship

Spectacular races in Sarno (Italy) for the first round of the CIK-FIA European KZ and KZ2 Championship. Fans of karting from all around the world had the opportunity to enjoy the event thanks to the live streaming on the official websites cikfia.tv and cikfiachampionship.com. The race was uncertain and yesterday’s results were not confirmed today. The Italian Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and the Danish Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) were the winners of this season-opener and grabbed the top of the standings of the KZ and KZ2 categories with still two rounds remaining. They were among the favourites, even though in the morning races their rivals seemed to stand better chances. All the most significant moments of the event will be available next week on Motor TV. Next appointment in Zuera (E), from May 21st to 24th.
Camponeschi wins in KZ
Flavio Camponeschi knew he needed a great start to win the Final, after scoring the second position in the Pre-final. He started from the front row, next to the Italian Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone), the winner of the Prefinal and the pole-sitter of the Final. Camponeschi managed to pass his team-mate at the start. Ardigò, at the beginning, had the same pace of Camponeschi and tried to keep at bay the British Ben Hanley (Croc-TM-Bridgestone). Eventually, Hanley managed to pass Ardigò and to score a final second position, between the two Tony Kart drivers.
Andreas Fasberg wins hands down in KZ2
Luca Corberi (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont), the winner of the Prefinal, was hit by a penalty for jump start and so victory went to another Italian, Alberto Cavalieri (Righetti Ridolfi-Modena-LeCont). Then, the great show of the Final. The Dutch Marijn Kremers (Birel Art-Parilla-LeCont) was the first leader, followed by the Italian Fabian Federer (CRG-Maxter-LeCont). Corberi’s performance was not as good as expected, while the Danish Andreas Fasberg was simply outstanding: he overtook Kremers and Federer and won ahead of the Spanish Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG-Maxter-LeCont). The Spaniard recovered 12 positions, concluding ahead of his team-mate Felice Tiene who overtook 6 of his opponents.
